Local law enforcement activity today

Pulling into Trader Joes parking lot this am, an Essex County police Emergency Management 911 SUV was seen parked directly in front of the adjoining pet store. Right up against the curb, in the "fire lane".

Unmanned.

Inside TJ, next to the refrigerated cheese section: blue-uniformed Essex County law enforcement officer. Clutching handle of packed shopping basket w/one hand. Manipulating hand held device w/other. Presumably communicating w/HQ on department-issued equipment (rather than playing with her cell phone).

Returning along  Wyoming from shopping outing, a squat Essex County "Major Crimes Unit" truck was spotted. Parked along curb for southwest-bound lane.  Maplewood; close to Millburn border, I believe. Though maybe the reverse. Right in front of it: dark, unmarked vehicle with impressive array of activated scintillating warning lights.

Someone's child is dead. Say a prayer for the family, and hug your kids.

Possibly buying food for the people that have bee out since 12 midnight, and then at accident/crime scene since 4:30 am. But I guess people don't have to eat.

There should have been someone also sitting in the "unmanned" SUV because, you know, God forbid an emergency happens right at TJs and the emergency guys have to get out of the way and leave to make way for the... emergency guys.  One less person on the scene of an actual emergency to babysit an SUV makes a LOT of sense.

Glad the light show was found "scintillating" though.  Personally, I was more concerned about the fatality, but we all have our own priorities I guess.

Was this a generic "Someone's child" or is there any information about the age?  I suspect that at 4:30 AM, it was an adult male.

The RLS news story linked above initially reported that the victim was a teenager, but later changed the story to "adult male."

Ahh. Ok. Thanks.  Regardless, it is tragic.
