Kings Closing

But they’re keeping the one in Montclair. Maybe it’s too small. And then they looked at the loading dock and decided...after all it’s no easy feat to get an 18 wheeler backed into there !

Latest article from The Village Green says that Kings is still looking for a buyer for the Maplewood location.

Does anyone know if the Township is involved with trying to help keep it open?

When the Post Office site was available, I think the Town tried to negotiate a deal where Kings would move across the street to the P.O. location.  Obviously, that did not work out.

At yesterdays TC meeting, it was announced that the town is working with the owner of the Maplewood location to try to find a buyer who would run a grocery at that location.

This discussion has also made me speculate about the future of the movie theater. -Obviously a very large building and will have been ultimately closed for probably a year -or more?

In other words, if not for the pandemic it would almost certainly have been viable for many years but now nobody knows what the future holds, for almost anything.

Pandemic aside, the trend in grocery stores seems to be "bigger is better".

I always watched in awe of the drivers of those long trucks as they would thread the needle!

I don't see how the movie theater will survive.  It will probably become another generic apartment building.

Relatedly, I’m worried about Ashley in SO. There never seems to be more than just a few customers in there these days.
