Kimmel/Christie fat jokes crossed the line. archived

In the pic Christie looks like the cat that ate the canary; he's about to fall head first into the bombshell's cleavage. wink

I don't understand the acceptance of fat jokes. The assumption appears to be that obesity is the result of gluttony, laziness, and stupidity. In the case of the governor, none of those conditions could come into the picture! He was an extremely successful attorney and has become a governor with national name recognition.
Frankly, I would have not been able to eat a bite of food after our president's "joke" that pit bulls are delicious! :0& How many Yorkies are needed for a kabob? Not funny, but pit bulls can get thrown under the bus!

When I was a kid my ears really stuck out and I was teased constantly for it. Bullied, really, as a matter of fact to the point that at least two school nurses suggested I get surgery to pin them back. But I refused to do it because, well, they're my ears, and there's a picture of one of my grandfathers that my mother has and they're his ears, too. Totally genetic. I came to accept my big ears in high school and eventually my head grew so they were pretty much proportional anyway.

I would never come on here to complain, however, when Jimmy Kimmel made a joke about our President's ear-size. Because it's a f**king roast and the people in there are expected to leave their egos at the door. It's an event so important and entertaining that they give the rights to C-SPAN, FFS. It's a show for wonks. And jeez, it was Jimmy Kimmel, not Gilbert Gottfried. Get over yourselves already.

I like Obama AND Christie. What am I? oh oh

Tom, Christie takes it in stride, and I thought the jokes were funny. The issue on MOL is that some people deride Christie's weight problem because they want to demean him because they oppose his politics. Come to think of it, isn't that what many on the left accuse their opponents about our President's race? That some oppose Obama because he's bi-racial?

Both have no place in my view.

Agreed. But so what? See ridski's post above. You won't see me picking on Christie for his weight when it's time to talk about politics. That's not my style, either.

John Locke's crush on Christie is exceedingly creepy.

Not nearly as much as your jld obsession apparently!

Kimmel? Really, he's the least funny guy on late night. Are his ratings sucking wind?

"Olive Garden State" is an AMAZING joke

It's a great joke, but just today there was a story about the ranking of states by the percentage of chain restaurants.

Turns out, New Jersey is close to the bottom of states where chain restaurants are a significant percentage.

Or, I guess you could say that we are at the top, of states where chains are less prevalent than independent restaurants.

One more comment. There's a joke about NJ politics, where when people move from North Jersey to retire in South Jersey, two things happen -

1. They vote Republican.

2. They view the Olive Garden as fine Italian dining.
