Jamie/Dave Is there a problem with adding comments on a cell phone?

Or it is just my antiquated low version Android that's the problem. When I try to add a comment I can only start a sentence with a lower case letter. When I try to shift it says I've copied to clipboard. Of course I'm posting this on a computer but in a few minutes I'll try to add to this thread by phone and you'll see what I'm talking about. It could be my old smart phone of course. TIA

here i am on my phone. no ability to use alt or shift key.

What phone and version of Android? I'm on an LG G4 with lollipop (android 5.1) and have other issues, but not this one.

My iPhone doesn't have these issues, but I am still seeing the problem where the final character (often the ending punctuation) on a post gets cut off. And if I edit a post, it loses the last character entered on an edit. My workaround is to enter an extra space, but it's a PITA, particularly when I forget and then go back in to fix it and have it happen again on the edit.

Very old T Mobile myTouch Q (I keep it for the keyboard and for the FM receiver). Android Version 2.3.6.

HOWEVER I WAS ABLE TO POST WITH THIS SAME PHONE PRIOR TO THE NEW MESSAGE BOARD VERSION. I am used to not being able to use certain apps (like MyFios or mlb.com - all of it) with this old phone but it's a bit frustrating that this same message board I can read and be signed but no longer post unless I want to post like ee. cummings with no number signs as well.

I'm guessing it's the antiquated Android version - it's nearly impossible to make the latest and great stuff work on old technology.

sac- is your phone up to date? Which iphone is it? are you using safari?

It's always hardest to fix these issues unless we have the hardware that's having the issue in hand. Another idea would be to google your specific issue and see of you can find someone else with the similar problem and see if there was a solution - then post link here.

jamie, I'm sure that's the case and that would explain why it worked before when you were using older software.

"it's nearly impossible to make the latest and great stuff work on old technology."

But not totally impossible yes? So c'mon make a personal tweak so I can keep my old phone please. Just kidding and here are the emoticons to prove it. cheese cheese

I had a similar issue that sac had but it's probably because I'm on an S3. I also uploaded a pic but it didn't appear

iPhone 6 with iOS 8.4 which is the latest version, I believe. Yes, Safari.

I can post comments from my phone without any issues (iPhone 5s, iOS 8.4) but I cannot start new threads from my phone.

I've never been able to upload a pic with the new board- trying again now.

Hm, worked on the second try... And even got my period thanks to @sac's trick!

Hmm. A new bit of fun on Android. When deleting text, it seems to try a to add back what's being deleted. It hard to explain. I'll see if I can make a video.

I have issues with uploading pictures, what I now do is post the text first and then edit and wait a bit for the picture to upload and then hit "submit" and it usually works. Usually.

Note, all I'm doing in the video is holding down the delete key. (LG G4/Lollipop 5.1)

Thanks for the video - this is helpful - we'll look into it.

I wanted to add that this is in opera. I'll have to check chrome.

ETA: yes, same issue.

I never noticed the ? issue on the iphone before, but I did recently run into it. To remidy I simply added a space after the question mark and that seemed to work.

After some poking around I was able to find how to start a new thread on the mobil site, so it is there, I just didn't see it.

It isn't just '?'

Apparently whatever you type as the last character either when entering a post or (worse) when editing an exiting post gets lost. It is especially confounding when you are editing in the middle of an existing post and forget that it happens and the edit causes another problem. I always try to remember to type an extra space at the end, but sometimes forget.

Maybe it isn't just the question mark. A missing period wouldn't catch my eye as much as a mission question mark, so I've probably just never noticed before.

Bumping up this thread - we just updated the editor script - let me know of this fixed anything.

Test post with period as last character

does the period disappear after you hit submit?

Looks like it still isn't working.

ETA - it seemed to work correctly just now when I edited this post, but the one above is missing a period that I had carefully entered. That post wasn't subsequently edited, though.

k, i upgraded and am getting the issue now

The difference in those posts just before this one is that I straight out typed the first one, with the last character types being a period. On the second one, I added a space after the period, but then back-spaced to remove it, and the period stayed.

I don't know if that tells you anything

If you finish each post with 2 periods, it will post the first one. Same with question marks and exclamation points, BTW.
