Is there much less activity on the new Message Board?

Totally appreciate someone bringing this up, it really seems not much is getting posted. I am seeing posts that usually would be posted here ending up in SoMASwap - ISO - asking advice, help or providing opinions and its not about stuff/items.

Have others overcome the problem of once they do something in their account, have to reenter to get back to discussions, etc? I also think people just do not do well with change...and maybe people found they recaptured some personal time by not posting and it helped their posting addictions?

Just checked back after starting this thread and find it pretty funny that everyone agrees with me but that there are already four pages on the topic! Yeah, having to log in every time is a drag. Jamie/Dave, will that get fixed?

It would be great if my iPhone could at least remember my username and password so I wouldn't have to type it all again each time I have to log in.

I have no issues with either my desktop/ laptop computers or with my iPad. the log in seems to be lasting much longer between re- logging in.

agree that search is difficult.

Admittedly I've been posting less too ... mostly because at work our firewall blocks the new MOL from loading correctly and I have practically 0 phone signal at work ... also I really miss being able to mention people with @molname and get notifications if someone mentions me, which would usually bring me back to see what it was about.

I think this thread is very active, because many of us that have been posting lightly want to post our 'excuses' for being less active oh oh

MOL was a tremendous resource. But it won't be for much longer until the search function is improved or just goes back to being the way it was. I loved being able to search titles and phrases. Now a search throws up every discussion containing that word. What a nightmare to type in Cape May and wade through every comment with "May" in it to find something related to what you are looking for.

try using quotes "Cape May

is this mainly on your phone or any browser

Mostly on my phone but it also happens on my 'puters and iPad.

Not the person you were asking but with me it's on computer and iPhone. Computers have been PC and Mac, and have tried Firefox, Chrome, and IE.

One other related issue is that it usually doesn't even let me login. When I'm really logged in, my username appears instead of the sign in button in the top right corner. I click the sign in button, and rather than taking me to the sign in page it takes me to my account details page, as if I'm already signed in. From there, I can't get out, I finally get back to the main forums page, I'm in the same situation again. The sign in button take me to account details. But I'm not really logged in - it doesn't remember threads visited or let me post.

ok, we have tweak that will be implemented soon which may - I'll let you know when it happens. Hopefully we solved the bigger issue where people could login and couldn't post at all. That was a tricky one to debug.

This is precisely what happens to me with chrome on my android tablet.

This has happened to you in the last 24 hours? Try hitting refresh on your browser.

Took me a while to sign up since the new board launched -- I mostly view MOL on my phone and the temp password hafhfiu836738erwu3w87wihsdfj was so long --- and the iPhone browser wouldn't let you copy and paste.

Doesn't work well on mobile.

what doesn't work well on mobile exactly? You can also reset your password once you initially log in.

t least my iPad remembers my username and PW. iPhone...not.

iPhone still kicks me out. It does recall the login info however, so it's two clicks and I'm back in. Annoying, but not that inconvenient.

Is your iPad wi-fi only?

I'm on an iPhone. I no longer have the problem where I enter my username and password but don't get logged in. For the last day or two, I'm able to log in, but I get booted out pretty quickly and it doesn't remember my username or password, so I have to type everything in again.

I also use a desktop (Chrome on a Mac) and an iPad with no problems.

All this, especially the no indication of new activity.

For me there are two drivers to my reduced participation. One is that there is no indication of new activity in the "My Discussions" and "Participated Discussions" views. The second is that there is so much wasted white space that on a wide but short laptop screen, all I see are a few messages at a time. My eye wants to take in much more information than is presented in the given space before I have to start scrolling.

yes - this is near the top of our list - 1st is login issues. The most critical ones have been resolved just a for more tweaks hopefully for others.

Overall, I'm happy with the progression. Like I said in the beginning give us 1-2 months to tweak things - it a little over a month - there were some mysterious login issues that were tricky to pin down - so I hope those frustrated by this have returned. And please email me if you're still having consistent log in issues at jamie@maplewoodonline.com

We currently have a list of around 20 issues we're going to try and address in the next few weeks - so hang in there. I think after that - you won't be able to decide which forum version you liked better - ours or vanilla. And a month after that we'll be more open to requests.

I may sound selfish here, but it totally breaks my heart that MOL was my main source for donations for the ROCK To Defeat and Walk To Defeat ALS events, but this year, no matter how many times I moved the page up, I didn't get a click. I think all the issues definitely caused the change, and also that a lot the regulars have not come back...at least not yet. I spend about 80% less time on MOL than I used to, though I come back for a minute or two everyday hoping I will learn to love it. Sorry Jamie and Dave. Maybe I just hate change, or maybe this is not as good a format, IMHO.

Mantram: To avoid (or at least reduce the incidence of) the search results you describe, try putting your search phrase in quotes --- "Cape May" rather than Cape May. This is a fairly standard device that works well with most search programs.

The constant need to re-log in on mobile every time, the need to reset the default to 50/page every time, inability to sort by the threads I've participated in and the incessant P.O. threads that crowd out everything else are my reasons for not viewing as much or posting as much.

...and the inability to hide certain categories like word games.

This is pretty much my experience also. (iPhone 6 w iOS and Win 7 w Chrome). I do still get logged out fairly often but not every time and I've never had it happen when making a post. I've seen interest in MOL wax and wane before, so I've been assuming same thistime. I see the stuff on Facebook but there are no categories, etc so I don't see it as a replacement ... just yet another outlet.

I WOULD like to see 'My Discussions' and 'Participated Discussions' like they used to be - as alternate views to 'recently updated' and recently' created with the same listing format (including number of new posts, etc.)

And Soapbox: All Politics

I have begun checking on threads by simply clicking through the categories I usually frequent, but then all I do is glance at the top five or so thread titles to see what's new. I have a feeling I am looking at far fewer threads than I used to.

Access and navigability seem to be the big problems.

we will be making the main default 50 soon. You can see the threads you've participated in in the dropdown - top right corner - Participated discussions.- right now it take you to the beginning - but we'll show # of unread comments soon and it will take you to last comment read. The PO threads will be hard to control at the moment.

We'll get there with this - I've mentioned is several times that it's near the top of our list.

Sorry if we are repeating ourselves, Jamie. It's next to impossible to remember everything that's come up so far. And thank you guys so much for your tireless work on all this!

I think this probably goes to the heart of people's problems on their phones. The changing ip addresses from carrier.
