Is there much less activity on the new Message Board?

And why is my text running into my avatar?
Hit Refresh on your browser.

Well, that fixed the text into the avatar problem, and brought back the formatting toolbar, but took away the resize control on the bottom right of the comment window. However, the comment window is now bigger. Weird.

I feel like the newish swap/meet soma lounge on FB is taking a lot of the traffic that might have ended up here. I prefer the anonymity here (though I know some people IRL) but I feel like there are more eyes there......

Actually, the comment window is only marginally bigger than it was before, but when you quote someone else's text, it forces the comment window to stretch bigger.

Hmm, it seems that as I keep typing, the comment window stretches to accommodate the growing text.

Nifty.

Comment window should expand as you type. It takes away the need to physically expand it.

I feel like the anonymity here sometimes leads to hostility. Still like it better than FB though.

I just wrote a post, and when I clicked "submit," the site logged me out... smirk

the random logout is pretty annoying. also the random inability to quote other posts. mostly seems to be an issue with Chrome. Firefox seems to be more stable using this site.

but don't get me started on trying to post from my iPhone...

definitely less active

I am also on less often- i would log on the see the classifieds and posts - now that classifieds are not showing I just check posts maybe once a day

Well, this thread is certainly bringing up the activity level of the board. Just sayin'

I just read that we should be upgraded here at work to IE11 by July 1st. It can't come soon enough. Between getting logged out as I'm typing comments (will copy this one just in case so I can re-login and post it) not having any normal functionality (links don't appear as links, quotes don't work, everything I type is condensed into a single paragraph no matter what i do) I hate this site using IE8 at work with a vengeance. I've switched to Chrome a couple of times to edit posts, but again I get logged out almost immediately. None of these issues occur on days when I work from home and can use Chrome on my mac.

IE9 is no better. Mobile is still a PIA to some extent. And yes, I'm posting less as a result. Though I did just notice on this post the quoted text is in green now, so that's nice.

This is you posting less? OMG ;-)

IE9 is a dinosaur - it may be hard to support that - I'll look into it. I can't believe how many businesses can't seem to upgrade the basics.

Something just have recently changed as the iPhone look is a hell of a lot nicer and it's far easier to type now. And I don't have to insert my own periods. Which is big. For me anyway.

This is me typing my response in the quote box because I can't get out of it now that I mistakenly deleted back into it.

Shouldn't you be in bed right now

OK, now my ending punctuation is disappearing. Smartass.

We tweaked it during the 2nd set of a dixieland jazz ensemble, so your mileage may vary.

it's only 1

Well that wasn't much of a response. I see the trapped in a quote dilemma - there are ways to toggle between normal and quote to get out of it. If you're at the end of a quote - hitting return twice will free you - which is an improvement over the last one. If' you're mid-quote - a little trickier.

I think max may have hit the nail right on the head. The change over to the new forum roughly coincided with the advent of nice weather. so there is less snow to complain about, fewer weather threads to keep track of, and more stuff to do outside for fun.

See y'all in December

And a new ,less controversial Village Prez in SO. They'll cut down on lots of posts.

True dat, but I had noticed a sharp decline in Torpeymania anyway before the change. Replaced by Post Office threads and people bringing up the post office controversy in unrelated threads.

A lost, frequent poster JerseyJack just came back---Yippee!

usage seems to have dropped off dramatically. Logging in every time and the format are issues for me

I'll add that I have almost forgotten about the For Sale section because of the new set up which can't be good for business

For me there are two drivers to my reduced participation. One is that there is no indication of new activity in the "My Discussions" and "Participated Discussions" views. The second is that there is so much wasted white space that on a wide but short laptop screen, all I see are a few messages at a time. My eye wants to take in much more information than is presented in the given space before I have to start scrolling.

Oh! You guys changed the way the quoted material looks, didn't you? Very different.

Anyway, I agree with Jasper, particularly because there's no indication of new activity in "My Discussions" and "Participated Discussions." I'm spending much less time on MOL since the navigation has altered so dramatically. I can't scoot around the way I used to, find the threads that interest me, and figure out which ones have had new comments added since my last visit.

I don't post from mobile devices, only the laptop, so that's not an issue. But the way things present on the screen and navigation are definitely big issues for me.

Just click on the down arrow next to "MOL Areas" for a direct link to the For Sale and other related sections of MOL.

Two reasons:

#1 it is the start of Summer and people are outside having fun.

#2 Sheena is now the President and we have no Alex threads.

Well, someone could start a thread pointing out that in VP Collum's first official act, her Proclamation thanking former VP Torpey for his service as Village President, referred to him as being the youngest mayor in NJ when he was elected, when we all know that he was never a "Mayor." I won't be the one to do it, but someone could . . .

Hmmm, maybe you just have to be a certified Luddite?

I got my avatar to work fairly easily and have been having much less trouble posting on my iPhone, iMac and iP. Everything is Apple so perhaps that accounts for it.

I do not like the little comment box and do not see how to enlarge it; I get hung up on peculiar things like a strike out line through stuff I have typed, too much white space, too narrow a page on iPhone ; miss my email alerts to postings; locked into quotes..oh, and MOL always opens in the Soapbox category

MOL was a tremendous resource. But it won't be for much longer until the search function is improved or just goes back to being the way it was. I loved being able to search titles and phrases. Now a search throws up every discussion containing that word. What a nightmare to type in Cape May and wade through every comment with "May" in it to find something related to what you are looking for.
