I have the same question. I used to look up phone numbers through Yahoo People Search. Now everything has been turned into a fee-based service.
whitepages.com is still somewhat useful, but less and less as time goes on. One problem is lack of a central database. Another is a decline in the use of home phones and the desire not to have our cell numbers listed.
I agree this has become quite a problem. I have had some luck doing a google type search (person's name + town + "phone number") but this only works if the phone number is listed.
superpages is the verizon phone book I beleive. i wish they would put an actual digital book online...so you could flip through pages and categories like an old fashioned book.....for example, you want to look up plumbers...last i checked, the set up online was horrible..not like the paper books
of course to look up a person, they need to have a landline and have it listed
We want to be able to look up people, but do we want to be lookupable ourselves? I think the desire for the latter is waning fast.
Thanks everyone!! I'll try these.
(There were always unlisted numbers, and I have no problem with that: some people want extra privacy, and I think a lot of us don't want to publish our cell #s. All I'm looking for is online access to the stuff that is already "in the phone book.")
but the problem with 'in the phone book' is if people don't have a landline anymore, they aren't in the phone book.....in addition to the people that were listed...its not that you trying to invade privacy...but just the fact that many people don't have a landline and many more are unlisted...therefore a phone book won't help..
BUT...i have seen my unlisted number show up on directory websites...and have found other unlisted numbers on these 3rd party sites

For years, I used switchboard.com when I wanted to look up a person's phone number, but now that site seems to only route you to paid background check services. I don't want all the info, just give me the phone #!
Or do I have to have my last remaining paper phone book laminated and hope for the best?
TIA for advice & happy weekend!
