I was sooo burned out when I finally got home. Will they ever finish this damn road??

Yeah it spilled over onto 24. That was rough.

How long will it be like this? I didn't see any notices about closing shift this time.

Call and complain.  Sadly, however, I really don't think they give a *****.

eastbound. It was on county website - supposed to be 7-4 wednesday, thursday and friday.  No big sign at s curves however. That was helpful when they did it the first time. By the time it is over  at 4  damage is done.  Don't know if they in fact finish at 4.

I believe it is scheduled to be closed again today too for milling and paving. Haven't heard anything about next week.

Thank you for creating this thread. . . even though the question was not answered when I left work, I avoided the S-Curves anyway. It turns out that it was a good idea.

Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. announced that the eastbound lanes of South Orange Avenue between Cherry Lane/Brookside Drive and Wyoming Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic onWednesday, December 9th; Thursday, December 10th and Friday, December 11th from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily so the roadway can be milled and paved.

The westbound lanes will remain open.

This is part of the ongoing $30 million federally-funded project to flatten the curves in the road, enhance motor vehicle safety and improve storm drainage.
“Closing South Orange Avenue will be an inconvenience for motorists traveling to work or school or going about their daily business. However, it must be done to maximize safety for drivers, pedestrians and construction crews,” DiVincenzo said. “We ask motorists to follow our detour, plan alternate routes and give themselves additional time to travel. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and look forward to a new and improved South Orange Avenue,” he added.

During the road closure, motor vehicles traveling eastbound on South Orange Avenue will be detoured north on Cherry Lane to east on Northfield Avenue to south on Wyoming Avenue before returning to South Orange Avenue. The westbound lanes of South Orange Avenue will remain open and there will be no detour.

FYI, yesterday around 4:15 or so, the EB lane was still closed. The lighted sign says this is happening next week too despite what the press release says...so who knows???

A warning that I believe Glen Ave by the Millburn Library is also closed today (Friday 12/11) which will surely aggregate the traffic issues.

The S-curves and Glen Ave on the same day?!?  A tour de force in planning.

Is it open East Bound now?

I don't think so...I was just talking to someone who came from that way in the last 45 minutes and had to detour.

Read it and weep:

I got stuck in this around 4 and thought I was in the clear when I finally turned into Glen from the never-ending scenic crawl down Brookside. When I saw that there was construction by the library it really took all of my being not to drop huge F-bombs in front of my kid. Really terrible planning, whoever did that. Happy Friday indeed.

Same. I was coming from Livingston Mall at 2:30 and it took me over half an hour to get to downtown Maplewood. Brookside was actually okay but then backed up on both Glen and Millburn Ave. Sigh.

I cannot believe they're pulling this crap again all this week. Other municipalities manage to do this during might hours, why the HELL can't Essex County? There is certainly enough light to work by!

This is a NIGHTMARE. It just took me an hour and 15 minutes to get home from Morristown. I barely made it to aftercare by 6:30.

Even better, it's the zoo's Holiday Lights Spectacular so there's extra traffic on Northfield.

anyone have an update on the construction schedule? Thank you!
