Is anybody else scared about hydrofracking???

@Tom, I understand that but you can't just complain without talking about solutions. Should we continue to pursue the same old energy policies that each carry their own environmental trade offs?

Like I said, renewable, cleaner energy combined with conservation should be our focus. But it's not.

Germany has it's priorities in order

Like I said, renewable, cleaner energy combined with conservation should be our focus. But it's not.

The energy companies are rushing this through so that the full costs, internal and external, are not tallied. This moves the cost of fracking on society rather than the energy companies. It also defers paying for them.

We don't know the long term effects of fracking, but we already know it's more than anyone expected.

The energy companies have written legislation for legislators to pass. This is a prime example of too much money exerting influence on government and therefore on society. A federal law allows energy companies to sue localities for lost potential income for merely not allowing an energy company to set up shop. In other words, if your town says no to fracking, an energy company can claim that they would have made, say, five billion dollars if your town had let them build a drill. This makes it cheaper for a town to allow it than to stop it, even if it poisons your water and ground, even if it causes earthquakes, even if your property is rendered worthless.

These wrongs are so egregious that I feel we do not have to think of a better way. They are wrong enough to say that they are just plain wrong and intolerable. We have to stop it first and think of a better way second.

I assume that those opposed to fracking are living in the manner of the Old-Order Amish.

I'm opposed to fishing using dynamite. That doesn't mean I have to be a vegan.

C'mon. This is a straw man argument if ever there was one. It's beneath you.

The New York decision is meaningless. A gas business that was not even developed won't be developed. It isn't like we voluntarily voted to cut off certain existing supplies with a significant market impact. Kind of reminds me of New Zealand's courageous decision to ban U.S. warships with nuclear weapons on board. Pretty brave for a country on the terminal node of nowhere.

Probably no connection, right? ...And anyhow, who cares about what happens in Utah???
