International Drivers License?

Heading to Spain for 2 weeks and for the first time I will be renting a car. The rental website refers to an international drivers license? Can I use my NJ drivers license or do I need anything else? Guidance much appreciated.

You'll need an international driver's license. It can only be obtained through AAA (which is what I used) or NAC. I tried to put the link in but failed. However, if you just type in international drivers license, the correct site pops up. Download the forms, fill them out, take them and the appropriate fee, and your NJ license to the nearest AAA office and get the license. As recently as two years ago it was in Essex Green. I'm not near a phone book but perhaps you or someone else is. Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip.

they are good for a year. I have had them many times. never asked for it by rental car agency-supposedly you could be asked for it by authorities if ticket or accident.

I've rented cars in Spain many times using my US license. Never an issue. Last time was a few years ago, so not sure if rules have changed, but if not, you should be fine with NJ. Can you contact a car rental company now to confirm? (I've been able to drive all over the world with a U.S. license

I rented a car last summer in Spain with my NJ license. Unless you are using some dodgy rental place, the US one should be fine.

I got one at the AAA office on Route 22. What I was given to understand is that you probably will never be asked to show it, but in the unlikely event that you need to (e.g., a fender bender abroad), you could be in trouble if you don't have one.

we were asked for it right away by a major rental company when picking up a rental car in Italy in May.
