The Thermapen is awesome and, I believe, sold at Kitchen A La Mode. I have the older model which is $79 and there is a new model, the MK4, which is more waterproof and has a longer battery life, that's $99.
Thermapen also makes a model called a Thermopop which, I believe, sells for roughly $30. The MK4 is said to give you 2-3 second readings, whereas the Thermopop is 3-4 seconds. Everybody has different needs, obviously, but 3-4 seconds is plenty fast for me.
Cook's Illustrated recommends the Thermapen. I have a few of their products. They're great.
This review recommends the Thermapop.
I prefer a probe thermometer that I can leave in the oven. Mine is a Polder with an alarm that goes off when the food reaches a set temperature.

Different purposes for me. The oven probe thermometers are for roasting or, in my smoker, for low-and-slow barbecuing. The Thermopop is for grilling or other faster cooking uses.
