Ibtihaj Muhammad Viewing Party

Women's Team Sabre is Saturday.

Maybe add "party" to the title.  Currently sounds morbid.

I can not verify it but there are reports on the Internet of vicious anti Israel twwets by her.  Can anyone verify or refute them? I had bought into the story but if these reports are true it is a totally different ballgame.

Should I bother pointing out that you said you bought into a story without knowing if it's true or not while criticizing someone for probably doing the same thing?

Congrats to her - getting into the Olympics is a rare honor and she deserves some supportive hometown recognition. I'm as interested to know in your Twitter issue as I am to discover why Phelps is covered in big dumb purple spots - not at all.

I said if.  I am just looking for it to be refuted or confirmed. But if confirmed it is hugely serious.

That URL is enough to tell the story of their intention....

Was hoping to watch her live, but the US Women's Eight is defending their 11th world/Olympic title that morning. Was fortunate to have the great chance to meet Ibithaj yesterday evening in Rio at USA House. Very personable and friendly, had just finished a photo with other NJ based fans.

Love the local viewing party BTW!

That is why I said not confirmed.  But despite the source it is something that should be looked into to either refute or confirm.

Yes the anti-Israel tweets are on her twitter account, I checked. So she is a hater who deserves censure not support.

Have you ever met her? She is a first-class person. She has friends of all religions and races.

This is just anti-Muslim bigotry.

I checked the link. The source is Pamela Geller, well-known birther and bigot.

The actual anti-Israel posts are on her actual Twitter feed. I checked. People who post such things about Israel are NOT a first class person and is certainly not a friend.

I am wondering how and why mainstream media has not picked this up at all, or even Fox News.   I think that before we know more for sure, and there isn't simply one or two possibly-biased sources of this info, we shouldn't rush to judgement.  She has become a national role model and I'd think some bigger news outlets would be drilling down on this story.  Just my opinion.

As I said, I confirmed they are on her Twitter feed. You can look for yourself. They are from 2014 so you need to scroll down a bit.

I have been scrolling for an hour.  Its so hard to get that far back.    But if its the case, I am surprised its just not national news especially with certain outlets.

You must have slow internet. Only took me less then 10 minutes oh oh

You are a racist. You are propagating racist, anti-Muslim rhetoric. The tweets don't exist. Please link to the tweets you claim exist to prove me wrong. And if they do exist, she would be correct about Israel.

Clearly you are anti-Israel too so you have no legitimacy. And the Tweets do exist.

lol at no legitimacy. You are lying. You played yourself and are publicly shaming yourself. Soon you will ask the mods to delete this thread.

I am assuming you are older. So let me help. Please go to Twitter, scroll to the tweet you find so offensive. Hover your mouse over the part that goes ... (next to the heart icon). Click on that, then mouse down to Copy link to Tweet. Right click copy or use control C. Then in this thread right click paste or control V. That will paste the link to the tweet, prove you right, and me wrong.

I'll just quote you here so you cannot edit your lie.

Could you please summarize their content?  There a lot of persons, including Zionists, who have very varying positions on the two State solution, for example. This does not necessarily make them anti-Semitic or racist. They could simply favor a position on Palestine and Israel which is different from your own.

Edited to reflect that this was cross posted with Library Lady.  If the only post you find offensive is the one Library Lady linked to above, I hardly see how this makes the person you refer to racist or bigoted.  If the article is accurate, it would appear to be the persons administering the contraceptive who might be considered racist, not the person reporting on the practice.  Does the person you are criticizing state anywhere that she agrees with this practice?

I went onto her account and without even getting that far back I was overwhelmed by the racial comments. I took a break after the articles posted on lynching. One of the posts that you shared was definitely there.

This thread really is shameful. What started out as a nice reminder from Vic has descended into hate fueled bigotry. Remember, when you attack her, you are not just attacking a Muslim, you are not just attacking an African-American, but also a fellow Maplewood resident. And a role model for peace and understanding in a conflicted world.

I have yet to see one offensive tweet by her posted by anyone. Just anecdotal smears. I don't care what kind of Zionist lunatic fringe you belong to but that is hateful, and perhaps also sexist to think that a young woman who is a hero to so many should not allowed to have thoughtful political views.

In the words of departed local treasure and poet of peace Amiri Baraka: "A man is either free or he is not. There cannot be any apprenticeship for freedom."

You have seen plenty of evidence of the tweets.  So you are being willfully in denial. And pointing out a person's own words and actions that attCk Isreal is not in any way any of the things you irresponsibly allege.

All I am doing is expressing MY view that anyone who has tweeted anti Isreal things is not deserving of praise or support but rather only of censure.

The tweets are usually news stories from sites such as IBTimes, NBCNews or some other news organization. Sometimes they're about a country condemning Israel, or some attack from Israel into Gaza, etc., with #FreeGaza or #FreePalestine usually being the only commentary from her. It's not like she's retweeting the Islamic equivalent of Stormfront or... Well, Stormfront. I know lefties I grew up with back in London who bug my Facebook feed with exactly the same thing.

But the tweets are there. I went through about 2 years' worth this morning. I didn't see anything to be concerned about.

Her business associate and friends are Jewish. She is non-Political, declining even to make anything more than a small mild comment on Trump.

Perhaps I do not fully understand Twitter. Are these comments originated by Ibti or comments sent to her. I think I get Tweeted comments from people I don't even know.

It looks like over the course of about 4 years, she tweeted a dozen news articles that were critical of Israel. Is being critical of Israel now beyond the pale?  Is Israel beyond reproach? Because I'm pretty sure if and American had been criticizing the U.S. government for drone strikes or for torturing prisoners overseas no one would bat an eye.

It is frankly shocking to me how quickly we turn against someone like this.    Someone on fb shared this:

"It looks like the majority of the tweets are of actual news stories. The first looks like an antisemitic libel, but quite a few of her tweets are of reports/ narrative from Zionist, Israeli sources that support the state, such as the Times of Israel conference. The state is not above criticism. Its current government is highly deserving of criticism. It is a fact that SIX former heads of the state's security agencies, men who devoted their entire careers to the State of Israel's security, actively publicized their sophisticated (and they were far better informed than all of the people of New Jersey combined) opinion that there is no sustainable political strategy in place with respect to the Palestinians; this movie was shown by many synagogues in the United States. Are they also anti-Israel? Is Meir Dagan, may he rest in peace, now anti-Israel? Furthermore, the levels of discrimination and racism in Israeli society that Arabs, Jews of color and non-Jews of color face is not at all low. When I have been in Israel, I saw it every day. We have plenty of racism and discrimination in the US, and Israeli has its own special forms as well.

Ibtihaj Muhammdd is 30 years old. She studied International Relations and African American Studies at Duke. The most recent of these tweets about Israel is over two years old. Why is this so incredibly threatening ? Yes, she displayed a one-sided, highly partisan view of the state of Israel. Unfortunately, too many of the state's supporters cannot tolerate anything other than the mirror image of that one-dimensional understanding. This is the attitude required for dictatorships, not for open societies."
