I've started to not open "What is being said in the Rose Garden"

General question: what thread or threads (past or present) if any have caused you to rethink your position on a topic?

The one I rarely open is "GOP 2015." It's now about 1200 posts since I last checked it.
Call me coocoo, I like GOP2015.

I enjoy the Rose Garden thread. Hope it continues on, despite the fact that I think IM80 is off the mark much of the time. Interesting how some MOLers like to gang up on a normally gentile (IMO), female octogenarian, because she has a different outlook. Like this thread, for example.
I hope you keep pluggin IM80. Keep keeping your head while those around you are losing theirs...

(However, can you tone down the Benghazi stuff)?!

I think it's great IM80 keeps on plugging, but its so frustrating because she doesn't go for the back and forth analysis, she just eats shoots and leaves.

I really enjoy the GOP thread. It is a show run by its owner, and he has a particular style of poking fun at the Republican Party. Not to be taken too seriously as a thread, there end up being some seriously salient points made there.

Can I play here, too? If I seem to eat, shoot and leave at times, perhaps it is due to an instinct to duck, anticipating the response from the regulars!

The last thing I want is condescension or humoring. So I will continue plugging away undaunted. Thanks for the kind words, mountainhouse.

personally, I don't have anything against someone having a different POV. I get frustrated by the constant quoting of the most fatuous political pundits. Anyone relying on Maureen Dowd for "wisdom" makes me want to bang my head on the keyboard. I'd prefer a person come up with their own arguments instead of borrowing inane arguments from someone else.

the thread is the MOL version of shooting fish in a barrel.

.........with much humor.

Only if you're Democrat. ;-)

Oh, you don't have to be a Democrat to make fun of idiots, trust me.

Sorry. I was making a joke. But probably too absurdly subtle. The "a" in that sentence was left out intentionally.

Perhaps I should clarify that ffof was referring to the title of a book on punctuation by the same name which was written by Lynn Truss. She was not implying that I was a big, adorable panda who eats shoots and leaves.
:-D

@IM80, I apologize if I've ever condescended to you or humored you. I appreciate your good manners, and I invite you to go deeper, if possible.

It is frustrating that discussions can only go so deep here, but it's worse on facebook.

You are correct IM80 grin But if you were a panda, you would be an adorable one.

Pandas are lazy. They need to go get jobs or something instead of just lounging around doing nothing. They're too lazy to even bother having sex anymore. They're barely even attracted to their own species. WE think they look cuter than they do.

In another life, Eeyore was a panda.

Typical panda construction team at 10am. I bet they're unionized, too.

Ah, Ridski, just when I was enjoying a vision of me as a panda, you spoil it all.

We visited Australia a couple of years ago and saw the special nursery and quiet zone the zoo in Sydney had for panda breeding. Signs warned visitors to be silent while viewing-- sort of hanging a do not disturb sign on the bedroom door!

I don't know...
Pandas Gone Wild: https://youtu.be/2Vu8VmPtxAA

A minute of a panda dancing *while laying down*, a 20 second clip of a panda *climbing a single stair*.

I rest my case.

How can you say no to that face #panda wink

I always preferred red pandas.

@SouthernBaron

Ask and you should receive - how can you say no to that face? wink

Impostors! Raccoons with good PR. Charlatans living off the good name of real pandas.

You don't have to say "no," you just have to say "make me," then watch it spend a couple of minutes shambling angrily towards you before giving up and sitting down to eat its toenails for the rest of the day.

Anything that evolves to eat only one thing will eventually be an evolutionary failure.

Supposedly they can eat other stuff too? Seems like a good time to start...

Especially with humans around.
