History of the SO Elks Lodge? archived

Does anyone have any information on the origins of the Elks Lodge? It must have been a grand stately home back in its day.

An old Map I came across (late 1800's/early 1900's) indicated that the property was owned by the Ball family (relatives of George Washington) at one time.

I know it was the childhood home of Cliff Engler probably in the 30's and 40's.
Cliff was a very successful businessman who invented that odometer that you see in the hub of tractor trailer wheels to keep track of the mileage on the tires. I think he passed away in the late 80's.
See Engler Insruments Jersey City.

@bets : Is there an officer at the lodge charged with lodge history?

@jimmurphy : I do not believe there is.
