Highland Place "Nachos"

I attended the same party as MEM and also enjoyed the nachos - $8 seems reasonable for this appetizer, if you downed one in one bite ("4 bites of food"), you have a rather large mouth.

But I will return for another try.

I don't understand, why would you want to go back? Don't bother, it will just mean more for us!

This just makes no sense whatsoever.

Guacamole is actually a Mexican Spanish word...

The phonetically similar Whac-a-mole, however, is definitely an American concoction.

8 bucks will get you a *****ty sandwich in the city at a slop house. 8 bucks for 4 well crafted "nachos" with chicken, avocado, etc. in a nice restaurant atmosphere seems pretty reasonable to me
I'm about to have some $7 nachos in the lobby of a Jersey City Wells Fargo. I'll be back with my review in 5 minutes.

Hey now !!
Don't worry, I have nothing bad to say. It was without question the best $7 quesadilla* I've ever eaten**

*I watched them dump a big tub of nachos into another smaller tub and changed my mind
**In a bank lobby

You're welcome, world.

It's 8 bucks, not 80. At that "price point" you're not getting a whole hell of a lot in NYC except for a Taco Bell combo.

$8 for four bites of food needs to be exceptional, not just good.

Eating one tortilla chip in one bite is unusual?

For $8 I'm just expecting that the course fills in some time.

Really?!? That's a LOW standard.

Rather the opposite, to be honest... my standards aren't as fixed as yours seem to be. If I'm paying over $500 on dinner for two, it had better be exceptional. If I'm paying $8 for nachos I'm not holding it to what I'd expect from Boulud.

ktc, you have violated the 2nd Maplewood Commandment. Thou shalt not speak ill of a Maplewood establishment, especially one of the beloved sacred cows. Your comment will be marginalized with vigor, your right to your opinion smothered. and once we find out your address, we will march to your home with torches and pitch forks. exactly. Go trash businesses in other communities. We need ours to do well.

I don't think I "trashed" the place at all.

I'm not saying you did, I was just generalizing. I mean, this thread was a little harsh on HP but it wasn't an outright indictment.

That's a very fair assessment of my assessment.

Me too. Let's go to HP for some nachos.

They don't serve nachos.

One of my favorite meals is the three-course menu at DBGB. Total comes to $35. It's exceptional.

Again - what he said.

I am still surprised that someone ordered Nachos and was disappointed that he/she did not receive a plate full of crappy chips and some crappy melted Velveta

I'm here at HP now, and man, these are some good nachos. YUMmy.

Okay. I guess there are only two kinds of "Nachos" in this world.

I agree. They are good. But they aren't "Nachos." And they are pretentious. And it's not enough to share with a party of five.

For $8, what single appetizer is enough to share with 5 people?

Nachos.

you know what's a travesty? I went to HP on Saturday because someone told me the Yankees were going to be playing baseball in the back dining room. and you know what? it was a bunch of guys playing music. kind of pretentious of them if you ask me.

Agreed. Anytime my nachos affect a French accent, I'm disappointed.

Yet again, ridski, you hit the nail on the head. Thank you!

Or go around calling themselves "doctor".

Wait, which thread is this?

I always thought jicama was the most pretentious of all foods. and there's no jicama in HP's nachos. therefore, the nachos are not pretentious.

Let's not even go to the "Fish and Chips"...those look like French Fries, if you ask me!!!

Did I feel like it was condescending? No, I felt hoodwinked and bamboozled!
