Wind Advisory Remains in Effect Today, Sat 3/3

Power out in much of Morristown for last few hours.

Wind and rain/snow will conttinue most of the night, although things will start to calm down after midnight.  Although the wind will start dropping, tomorrow will remain gusty.

An example of true grit- my son has an outdoor hockey tournament tomorrow.  I think I'll take a flask.

Whole tree fell into yard. It’s been dead a while so it was only a matter of time. Got the gutters and the backdoor.

If a tree stands beyond the property line but falls on others property who’s responsible?

Crazy lucky but I’m just glad the window ac have not flown off the windows and landed on my car.

Depends. If you were warned (or warned the tree owner) that the tree was dead and dangerous, it would be the responsibility of the tree owner’s. If not, it’s the property owner’s responsibility.

It's bad.   Drove home from my office in Warren via Meyersville in order to check in on my parents in Chatham.  Bad idea.  Dozens of trees down and numerous roads blocked.    Several were just uprooted at the base, while others split    By the time I got to Maplewood, secondary roads were beginning to ice up. This was between 4 p.m. and 5:30.

One sump pump failed today - thankfully I was working from home in basement office.  Checked outlet (fine), jiggled drainage pipe and pump immediately clicked on.  Must've been some slight clog?

Vauxhall Home Depot today had Ridgid wet/dry vacs placed right near doors by building materials entrance - guess they've seen this a time or too - that sucker really sucks.  ADT's coming tomorrow AM with flood sensors to incorporate into existing Pulse system next to sump pumps...buy one get one free.

Good luck everybody!

Nothing compared to the massive town oak that is now filling my yard.  The tree missed the house by less than an inch; but, did massive damage to the tree in my side yard. Fortunately nobody was hurt.   Police officer who responded told me that over 40 trees are down around town thus far.

Ugh - so sorry.  Glad that you are safe and that the tree missed your house.

Oh my. Glad it missed the house and no one is hurt!

My wife has been stuck before Newark on a train from Penn for over an hour.  Not sure what is going on with that.

Joan, so glad your house was spared. It's really bad out there.

Almost 3 hours on the 433 out of Hoboken . Still on train.

Down trees single track

Yup, missing a husband on a train stuck in the Meadowlands here also. He just texted me that the conductor told them that when they reach Newark, they should find another way home than the train line....

tree missed me by 20 feet

Anyone know when the dangerous winds will stop?  People sleeping downstairs tonight?

My phone tells me they are to die down by 1 AM. And something tells me a lot of us are not going to fall truly asleep until that happens.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect today, 3/3, until 6:00 pm for steady winds 20 - 25 mph with possible gusts up to the mid 40s.

Temps will rise today, into the low 40s.

There is no precipitation in today's forecast.

The system forecast for midweek appears at this time to be an all-rain event, with more moderate winds than yesterday.  We will keep an eye on it.

Watching the news for the storm effects was very sobering. I'm really very lucky, weather-wise. The worst thing I have to deal with from these massive storms, even Sandy, is a swampy front lawn and uncleaned snow from sidewalks. The power has never been out for more than a few hours. That's the worst that's happened to me in the 12 years at my current location.

I hope everyone is dealing ok with the mess.

Maybe more so than usual, there are big differences between how the storm affected different neighborhoods. Just got back from the morning walk with the dog an didn't see one downed tree, tree limb,  or any other kind of damage near where I live.  The lights never even flickered here either.  Sump pump went off but the water levels on the property were not particularly extreme.

We've been without power in Newstead since 4:30 pm yesterday. Depends what grid you're on - my neighbors  across the street and next to me have power.

Thank goodness for my water-powered back-up sump pumps.

I'm posting from the SOPl. Came down to the Village to get coffee and recharge my pc and iphone.

PSE&G forecasting that some folks won't be back on until tomorrow at midnight, and that is after missing 3 to 4 previous estimates.

Cramer, sorry to hear.  We lost power for 10 days roughly, three different times:  Hurricanes Sandy and before that Irma was it?  And then there was some kind of October ice storm.  But so far, nothing more than several hours occasionally, after we bought a portable generator on the eve of Sandy, but before connecting it to the boiler.

we lost power, they came and fixed it, now it is out again. Sigh. I hope this time it is short term because they are fixing somebody else’s power or something.

I passed your house earlier today Joan without knowing what had happened. I therefore came onto MOL to check if you said anything. As shh said, so glad your house was spared and the damage is manageable. On Sommer Ave. I saw some down trees/limbs but we didn't lose power at all aside from flickerings for a few minutes here and there which worked out well since I managed to work the whole day from home yesterday.

That tree barely missed her house (actually scraped a little paint, I think or maybe bent a gutter.)  Very lucky!
