GOP Man For Township Committee! archived

well darren,
I respect your passion, and I respect your ability to explain mathematics. But my plan is proven to work. If you recall, it's *absolutely identical* to the 2005 Doug Forrester tax cut plan, known as "30 in 3." Are you telling me that a multimillionaire entrepreneur like Doug was selling us math that didn't add up? I don't think so.

And however I do the math, it adds up. Whether it's 100-10-10-10=70 or 10+10+10=30, it's simple. You can either say it's a 30% cut, or you can say you end up paying 70% of the taxes you used to. It's up to you.

Again, I respect your right to disagree, and we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

God bless you and God bless Maplewood.

GOP Man

Taxes, Shmaxes. Even conservatives don’t listen to candidates about property taxes any more. They know taxes are constantly on the rise, just like sea levels with global warming.

But hey, GOP Man, here’s something really important to Maplewood voters. Parking in the Village. We want to know that there is always a parking spot waiting for us when we visit Maplewood Village. All true citizens of Maplewood deserve this.

But what happens in reality when we go downtown to get a slice of pizza or catch a movie or try to stop for a cold one at the pub? There’s no place to park! Or maybe there’s a spot way at the other end of town or across the tracks or somewhere else. And to add insult to injury, sometimes there’s some lib telling you to walk or ride a bike or take the jitney or something macrobiotic like that.

What’s this world coming to when a man can’t park his SUV right in front of the pub? Why are we paying all these taxes anyway if the Town can’t provide parking for its loyal taxpayers? The people demand answers. The people demand action.

My guess is that by freeing up 10+10+10 over 3 years people will have more disposable cash and will be able to afford delivery services for beer, pizza and Netflix. Fewer people going out = more parking for SUVs.

Fair enough GOP. No need to argue the point any longer. IF you could lower my property taxes overall by 30% or at least the Maplewood portion, I'd be happy no matter how the math is done.

As for parking which is very important, its easy. Raze the post office and located somewhere else. Put a little satellite location in one of the open stores and make it the size of a UPS store. Put the post office where the land values are nothing in comparison, and make a big parking lot from the train station all the way down to the building that holds the coffee house.

well nugget,
as I stated earlier, I'm still working on my platform, and it's not nearly complete. I haven't really done much with the parking issue to date, but my gut tells me privatization is probably the solution. I'm working on a plank in the platform that I like to call "assetization," which will be broad-based, but flexible enough to encompass any problem you pose. So I think that's where the parking solution will come from.

More details to follow on assetization, when I've finished my deliberation.

I think that's what most voters will conclude. At least that's what I'm banking on.

The answer to parking in Maplewood Village is to start charging a user fee. Something like ten dollars an hour would work during peak times, reduced to a buck an hour during offpeak. There are parking meters available now from Halliburton that can handle different prices at different times and also take credit cards.

GOP Man here are your very own words:
"I like ass broad, but flexible enough to pose"
You been hanging out with Jeff Gannon?

Two thoughts on this thread:

1. GOP man's parody of political stupidity isn't actually funny.

2. There is no parking problem in Maplewood.

I disagree frank (on point 1 only). I've found GOP man very amusing over the past couple of days. keep it up. in any other county/municipality, he just might get elected.

I disagree frank on point 1 as well. I was a bit worried with the math discourse, but that was resolved in perfect political style.

Even tho i agree on 2, i like Darren's idea for the post office. I wouldnt use all the splace for parking - just the existing area reserved for PO vehicles. The rest i would use for nail salons, day care and a REAL bakery.

OK, I am not sure if this is parody or reality, but I am going to post like it is the latter. Ignorance of math does not mean you have to be a "math professor" to be in office, but you DO have to believe in the laws of math. I bet compounding is not so hard to understand when it occurs in your investment portfolio.

As for whether one could actually cut taxes 10% a year for three years, why not try something a little more simple - like not having them go up one dime for three straight years? That would likely be a miracle in itself. One that a person would probably be more likely to achieve as part of the School Board than as a member of the Town Council.

Anyway, no true conservative (of which I know many) would have a pic of GWB as a signature. lol

Good to see people are still reading this blog. I haven't posted in a while because I'm still working on my platform. I'm spending a great deal of time in comtemplation, doing my research, talking and listening. In about a week or so, I'll be ready to roll out my ideas on "assetization," once I've decided which assets to include in the plan. Make no mistake, every option is on the table, so you can be sure I've thought everything out.

GOP Man,

What is your position on vouchers for school choice?

Also, in your assetization plan - can i sell back to the government my future Social Security earnings? Basically i would like to cash out now, before baby boomers get all the goodies in the pot.

Well, since I'm running for Township Committee, I've got to assume that's outside my baileywick. As much as I'd like to end that ponzi scheme once and for all, I don't think there's going to be much I can do.

Posted By: VikingGOP Man,

I'm not wedded to any particular solution at this point. But I can assure you that the public schools are definitely on the table for some sort of full or partial privatization. I'm trying to research how much we can save in taxes if we sell all of our schools to Edison or some other group.

Well, on Education it sounds like you have a very open mind on thsi subject.

But on Social Security I guess i got my hopes up too high...

let's be honest, as a member of the TC, it would be the height of arrogance for me to say I can do something about Social Security, as much as I hate the confiscatory nature of the tax. And in this town, we conservatives like to be more humble. Arrogance is for the libs.

Fear not Maplewoodians, GOP Man hasn't abandoned his write-in campaign for the TC!

I'm just taking a bit of time away from overt campaigning. First reason is the obvious: you don't roll out new products in August, so to speak. So I'm waiting for Labor Day to cmoe and go before I spring my ideas for Maplewood on the public. The second reason is that I've been doing a lot of thinking. I'm going to make sure that I give careful consideration to everything I plan to do before I announce it. I'm like our president that way. Remember how carefully he spent that month at his ranch thinking about stem cell research. I admire a guy who can think for a month like that, and now I've done the same thing. I've spent a month thinking about all the issues that are vital to our town: taxes (of course), schools, business development (and the all important "ratables"), parking, Muslim extremism, quality of life, artificial turf, and taxes.

I'm not ready to roll out my new "product" yet, but I can tell you that my idea of "assetization" means that every and all township properties will be on the table for sale or lease. We'll be the "Crazy Eddie" of municipalities (and before you libs get all worked up, that was a joke. Republicans can be funny too.).

GOD BLESS AMERICA AND GOD BLESS MAPLEWOOD!

Have a blessed and safe Labor Day, and I'll be back with more next week.

Sounds great!

Maybe you can consider what is yur position on these critical issues for the future of Maplewood:
- Dog hill v. Memorial Park hill
- School vouchers

I would recommend all Mplwdians (from all political persuasions, since many are officially unaffiliated) jump in and let GOP Man know what are their critical issue.

**...jump in and let GOP Man know what the critical issues are.**

The most critical issue in America is government itself!!! As for Maplewood, IMHO, there are a few things that will make this a better place to live for everyone.

First, double the size of the township committee, from 5 to 10; second, go to a non-partisan election, like South Orange; and finally only meet once a month on Saturday mornings, from 8AM until the agenda is complete. FWIW, the mind is fresher in the morning and more residents will be able to engage in the process…

GOP Man - I'm really sorry to have to break this to you, but successive years of PERCENTAGE changes is not calculated by simple addition. Percentage changes over successive years involve multiplication, just as darrensager explained quite clearly in his post on July 17th 2007 at 8:51:06 PM. And if you are going to run on a fiscal platform you need to understand math at least that well. I'll bet if you were criticizing tax INCREASES, you would include the effect of compounding. (A 10% increase each year for 3 years is MORE than 30% just as a 10% decrease for 3 years is LESS than 30%.)

thanks ajc. I've known for some time that you and I are kindred spirits and it shows again in your contribution to this thread. I love your statement that "The most critical issue in America is government itself!!!" I have to confess I'm not quite sure what that means, but I think it will make a great campaign slogan:

THE MOST CRITICAL ISSUE IN MAPLEWOOD IS GOVERNMENT ITSELF!!!

With regard to your other suggestions, I'm not sure I'm totally on board. Doubling the size of the TC means twice as many politicians suckling at the public teat. Who needs that? And to be honest, I'm pretty leary about adopting any ideas that South Orange uses.

Saturday TC meetings? I think that will exclude a lot of people whose kids will be using our artificial turf fields on Saturday mornings. There. I've made one promise: we're going to have the turf fields. Even if we have to take land by emininent domain. As a Republican, I'm generally against the idea of ED seizures. But I'm also a pragmatist, and I feel like the turf fields will be a popular idea with the voters.

sac,
Don't try that same fuzzy math guff that you libs always try to pull. It's simple 10+10+10=30. You libs always try to make things complicated. We don't need another guy on the TC making things complicated. We need someone like me who will keep things as simple as 1+1+1=3. Case closed.

I think, in addition to taxes and turf, there should be a moral plank to your quixotic campaign. are there any family values you'd single out and promote as a member of the TC?

I'm glad you brought that up deputydog. It gives me an opportunity to make my pledge:

>I pledge that I will never be caught in a men's room with another man, and you will never find me in some madam's phone book.

Otherwise, I'm a pretty live and let live guy. I'm very open about being a very committed heterosexual, but I'm fully supportive of the gay rights. That's why I'm a Republican.

And as I posted in oldstone's thread on the "gay stuff" questions, when I'm elected I fully intend to reach out to the gay agenda. Because I think all families, gay or straight or otherwise are the backbone of the community, because I believe children are our future. And as long as gay families have children, those children will be our future. And our future is going to have lots of adults with gay parents who vote. So I'm very pro-gay, or at least as pro-gay as a completely straight Christian guy can be.

I think you should make the slogan, "The most critical issue in Maplewood is Maplewood itself."

I notice you write more clearly than our president does. It's a good start.

Best. Blog. Ever.

Good luck, GOP Man!

Well I can count on two votes at least. Mine and ridski's.

This campaigning thing may just turn out all right after all.

:cheer:

"This campaigning thing may just turn out all right after all."

Any election that turns out "all right" is a good election.
