giving away yarn archived

I've got a box of yarn left over form various projects that I need to get rid of. There are some whole skeins, but mostly it's only partial skeins. Anyone interested?

You can donate this yarn to the Red Cross in Millburn. The seniors come every week and knit hats for the premature babies or something wonderful like that. Don't put it in the donation bins, but bring it directly in.

What kind of yarn is it?

You could bring it to Here's To the Arts on Tuesday from 6 - 8 and see if anybody wants it. We have a weekly Stitch'n'B**** that meets there.

Or, as honeydo suggested, donate the yarn to the seniors but come to our group anyway. Knitters, crocheters, spinners, dyers, etc are all welcome. Just show up ... no need to RSVP to anybody.

Donating to the seniors sounds wonderful, but I have a bit of a transportation problem. Does anyone know if they have a program like that in SO?

Baird Center in S.O., senior services - seniors gather on Tuesdays to knit/donate afgans etc., they use donated yarn

The knitting program at Seth Boyden. Call the school at 973-278-5209 to see if they need donations this year. (We graduated, but I know that it was big in past years!)

I also recommend donating the yarn to Arts Unbound

Speaking of yarn, the attendance to our SnB (which started off with a big bang in the summer) at HTTA seems to be dwindling...as CLK said, all are welcome..

Do we need a better day/time or another location that will be more convenient for people?

Vineeta - I would like to join the group. I am not able to make it tonight, but have no problem with next Tuesday.
Unfortunately, 6p is early for me and I would not be able to make it before 7p.

So come on over late! We don't care.

OK! see you next tuesday!

I've been out out town the last few tuesdays, but I stopped by HTTA once and nobody was there. Glad to know that it's still going on! I'll try to make it next week. Maybe a reminder posting is in order?

I would be happy to accept the yarn to bring to the knitting group at St. Joseph's Church in Maplewood. We have a group of ladies who knit prayer shawls for shut ins who get visited by representatives of the parish.

If you still have the yarn I will come and get it just let me know where and when.

I am heading to HTTA right now as soon as my husband gets home to look after little CLK ....

Winniegirl, I'm glad you're coming back and I look forward to seeing you again! We did have a week here and there when we didn't meet because too many people had other obligations. I'm sorry that you came on one of those days. I guess that's one of the problems when the group is so small. I am pretty sure that we posted all of the down-dates on the Yahoo group that Vineeta created - did you ever sign onto that? We should have some way to reach everybody to make sure that we all know what's going on.

Next week (Oct 3) looks like it will be a BIG group. That's great!!

PS just came back from our group and Vineeta says that there've been people there on all Tuesdays since July 4 except for one in August, as HTTA was closed then ... unfortunately that sounds like the time you came, Winniegirl. I guess I lost track as I haven't been able to come every single week. It seemed like there were more days away.

Anyway sorry for the thread drift - I can't help putting in a plug for our group in any and all yarn conversations. I hope that kungfuchick finds a good home for her yarn.

Vineeta, CLK, ...
What is SnB? Is it a sewing or a knitting group?

Glad to know it's still going. I didn't go the week it was closed. I went a week after that I think. I got there at about 6:15 and the bartender said two women had come, but left to get something to eat. I guess the lesson is to be more patient!

A little thread drift here... CLK, I know you've knit socks -- do you know how to magic loop?

oh boy, just realized reading CLKs post that next tuesday is my wedding anniversary. I guess I can't make HTT!
see you all 10/10!

mbb - snb = Stitch 'n Bitch:wink:

Winniegirl - Yes - I've done magic loop. I can show you how - it's very intuitive and easy to do. I prefer two circulars though, or just using dpns. Just a preference for me.

Anne our group (not on MOL - I met her on the knittersreview forum) is knitting socks now too, using dpns. (though she isn't coming next week.) And I know that las is a serious sock-knitter. I think she's going to come next week too. I don't remember what technique she uses though.

Pippi, see you on 10/10 I hope! And happy anniversary!

do you still have the yarn? is it wool? If you do, I might be able to use it for a charity knitting project called afghans for afghans. They are in urgent need for wool sweaters for children. If you would like the yarn used for this, I could make a stripey sweater out of your bits and pieces.

Vineeta,
What is the time and meeting place for S&B? Is there any instruction, or do members simply show each other what they are doing?

mbb, I'll answer for Vineeta - we meet at Here's To The Arts on Baker Street in Maplewood, Tuesdays from 6 - 8 PM. There is no formal instructor, but we definitely help each other out. We have a range from beginners through to very experienced knitters. The more experienced onces coach the beginners, and also coach each other on techniques that one knows & the other doesn't. Again, I can't say it enough - all are welcome!

For some reason I was unable to sign in the last few days, so you can imagine my frustration at being unable to respond...thanks CLK, for doing it for me. I guess you have all the info now mbb.

Anne won't be coming next week, but I'm planning to be there as is CLK. I'm looking forward to meeting you again Winniegirl, and welcoming mbb and pippi (when you can make it). Mostly, we just chat, drink, knit and have fun. It's not formal at all.

CLK and Vineeta29, Thanks.

I would like to come to SnB some time, but I won't be able to for a couple of weeks. I don't think I have been to HTTA before. What is the street number there? #(?) Baker St.

Vinneta29, Did you see the message about loging in through www.southorangevillage.com/forum? I had the same problem as you until I tried that url.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. I've donated the yarn to Baird Center.

Is SnB still happening?
