FIOS sound problem

I have a FIOS DVR box connected to an LG TV. When I watch live TV or a DVD, I can keep the volume at a normal, mid-range level. However, when I watch recorded shows or an HBO program, I have to turn the volume up almost to the max in order to hear. I have fiddled with every sound setting and Googled the problem, but nothing seems to make any difference.

Initially, I thought it might be a problem with the DVR box, because we have a multi-room DVR, and the problem does not occur with the linked TV in another room. However, after getting a new DVR box, the problem still persists.

Any ideas for how to fix? I watched a program last night and had to turn the volume up to 95!

What is the volume level on your "problem" TV set?  Fiddle around with that to see if the problem disappears.

Other than that, what does FIOS say?

Volume level via FIOS settings at the top--30. Volume level on the TV varies from mid-range to max, depending on whether live TV or recorded programs or HBO.

First tech guy I talked to at Verizon was useless. I can try calling again, but thought I'd give MOL a shot first. Lots of smart people here, while Verizon reps are always hit or miss.

Is your TV on the "SAP" or secondary audio program?

There is also likely a audio setting in the FIOS cable box with a audio format setting - "PCM" "Dolby 5.1", etc... Haven't  looked in long while. (might be a TV setting as well)

This is a bit over my head. Not sure what you mean by the "SAP"--where do I find the answer to that question? Same for "PCM." I looked at the settings for both the TV and for FIOS, but didn't see those terms, only items like fixed vs variable, surround sound, and so on.

(I did come across a reference online to so-called "hidden" audio settings, which can apparently be accessed by pressing a certain combination of buttons, but I haven't tried that yet.)
