I'm probably the only one in this town that owns their entire catalog!

I encountered their debut album only a few years ago, and it was a long overdue revelation. (The heartbreaking "Oh, Candy" and martial "Elo Kiddies" being only two of the highlights that put power pop in the service of deeper themes.)

And speaking of power pop: Your recommendation of "The Ghost at Number One" way back when is still a musical highlight here on MOL for me.

Wow! Happy to share! I've been fixated on that genre most of my life. Always in relentless pursuit of the well-crafted pop tune!

Do you remember rock and roll radio?

If I could, would you?

Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?

What would you think if I sang out of tune? Would you stand up and walk out on me?

How many friends have I really got?

How do you sleep?

What's that you say Mrs. Robinson?

I'm Uncle Sam, how do you do?

Que pasa New York? Que pasa New York?

Voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir?

How can zero be a hero?

And if you ask me how I'm feeling, don't tell me you're too blind to see.

(Sorry.)

Waters.

So, so you think you can tell? Heaven from hell? Blue skies from pain? Can you tell a green field, from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? Did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange, a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder why we had to run for shelter when the Promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue Sky?

Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb? Mother, do you think they'll like this song? Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls? Ooh, aah, mother, should I build the wall?

Mother, do you think she's good enough? (for me?) Mother, do you think she's dangerous? (tell me?) Mother, will she tear your little boy apart? Ooh, aah, mother, will she break my heart?

Mother, did it need to be so high?

Got me a brand new '57 Chevy. It's got no tires, but it stops on a dime. Why change the water, man, why change the oil? Why change a thing when everything's fine?

Won't. You. Please. Let. Me. Back in your life?

Don't you ever leave off?

Who walks in the classroom cool and slow? Who calls the English teacher Daddy-o?

Why is everybody always picking on me?

Better late than never ...

How does it feel to be the only one who knows that you're right? How does it feel to be a loaded gun ... inside a chamber packed with piss and spite? How does it feel to be a chalk-line dollar sign ... at the address all the widows write? How does it feel to be a visionary poet ... to pack a pen with vinegar and insight? How does it feel to be so deep down underground ... to be the only who knows you've been buried alive?

I'm no Josh Groban.

Madonna, Madonna. Are you really lonely? Don't you believe someone can love you? Madonna, Madonna. Do you really wanna be a bad girl after all?

How many times do I have to try to tell you that I'm sorry for the things I've done? Why don't you ever learn to keep your big mouth shut? Why?

Not a lyric, but a musical question: Why doesn't Freddie Mercury like Star Wars?

Apparently, he didn't like "Star Wars" just as much as he did like riding a bicycle.
