E Street Band Ticket Sale Problems archived

[Title edited to reflect Ticketmaster screwing the fans]

If you're planning your schedule for next week, keep in mind that tickets for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be going on sale on Monday, February 2 at 9:00 a.m., for shows in D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, etc., etc,. as well as in the Great State of New Jersey (May 21 and 23, so far).

So, what do you think of the album, so far, nohero? I wasn't crazy about it on first listen, but it's really starting to grow on me.

Until today I'd only heard the online "previews". There is some harking back to earlier records, and also different musical styles - like "This Life", which seems like a Beach Boys tune sung by a philosophical astronomer (maybe if Galileo was a surfer?), or "Tomorrow Never Knows", which sounds like it could be a Steve Earle song off of "Transcendental Blues". I think that I may grow to like the distortioned "Good Eye", maybe just because it's there to relate back to some of the performances on the last solo tour.

My friendly UPS guy came to my door late this afternoon with my day-of-release CD copy, so it's on the stereo now. I'll get back to you on whether I think we're "in the presence of something wonderful and rare".

Okay, halftime show tonight and dealing with Ticket-b@stard tomorrow morning.

Nice article in NYT Arts section this morning.

I like that the album is dedicated to the late Danny Federici, and I like the song written in his memory, "Last Carnival", which reimagines their collaboration as that of two circus hands, who traveled the country performing death-defying feats.

I have to say the album has grown on me after a few listens. I find pieces of it finding their way into my head at random points in the day – always a good sign. I'm definitely curious to hear how they work live.

I'll be on Comcasttix instead of Ticketmaster. I want to see the shows at the Spectrum in Philly. That place is being torn down by the end of the year, so I'd expect Bruce to bring a little extra those nights.

I think the album approaches atrocious. The lyrics are embarrassingly bad, like something my middle-schooler would pen, not the author of "Thunder Road." Some of the rhyming schemes actually made me cringe ["shopping cart" & "heart"]. Cliche after cliche spills forth: tears, hearts, dreams, sun sets, moon rises, even stardust. And, how, exactly, does a "one legged dog make his way down the street?"

"Outlaw Pete" is "Jungleland" meets "Pancho & Lefty" or, should I say, smashes into "Pancho & Lefty." It's not a pretty sight. Bruce should stick with Little Steven because Townes van Zandt he ain't.

Somebody who is probably worth $250 million really shouldn't try to pull off something like "Queen of the Supermarket," where the protagonist is in love with the check out girl. Compare, The Clash, "Lost in the Supermarket." This is a candidate for worst Springsteen song ever. Check out this verse:

With my shopping cart I move through the heart
Of a sea of fools so blissfully unaware
That they're in the presence of something wonderful and rare
The way she moves behind the counter
Beneath her white apron her secrets remain hers
As she bags the groceries, her eyes so bored
And sure she is unobserved.

Ouch. And the music doesn't help: soaring strings combined with cash register sounds. Double ouch.

I have always been a Bruce fan. I own all his records but, with the arguable exception of "The Rising," he hasn't done anything truly great since "Tunnel of Love," and that was over 20 years ago. [The "Seeger Sessions" don't count because they weren't originals and, in any event, I found the whole thing way too forced and self-conscious; the live Dublin record is more fun.] It seems like he's run out of steam, which can be discerned from his reliance on a lot of studio and production gimmicks to make the songs sound different. I don't doubt that he can comeback. Dylan did. Maybe "Working on a Dream" is Bruce's "Under the Red Sky," in which event he's got few more great records in him.

Any thoughts on the halftime performance? I hope that cameraman he slid into is alright! Aside from the goofy bit with the ref throwing a flag, it looked like pretty standard Bruce (which is a good thing).

Loved the halftime performance. It was the only thing I liked about the game.

And I am enjoying the new album, and if I don't have a meeting, I am on Ticketmaster at 10:00 tomorrow.

The Ticketb@stard page shows the NJ show sales moved up to 9:00 a.m.

I got burned by Ticketmaster--but good for them to protect against scalpers. I had two sessions of Ticketmaster.com open on my computer, logged into my account on both.

I was in quickly for the Thursday night show (after typing in the security words 'reptilian' and 'scarcity'), then went to the other session for the Saturday night show.

After 10 minutes, I got a message that in essence read that since I have more than one session trying to log on this account, that I was being kicked out and feel free to try again with just one session.

Ugh! Now kicked out of the solo 2nd session after closing the first. Serves me right--looks like Ebay for tickets for me...

I managed to get 4 GA Floor tix for Hartford on Friday, April 24. If someone wants to get close to the stage, and doesn't mind traveling to Hartford, I'd be willing to make a trade for tickets at Izod.

Ticketmaster's "in house scalper", the "Tickets Now" company, had seats available almost simultaneously with the official sale. They also list two dates in March at the Izod center, and a third date in May, TBD.

Do they know something about additional shows?

[Edited to add] Potential March shows are gone, but the potential third May show is still in the list.

Ebay for me, too. Or StubHub or something similar. Why did I think 10:00??? Grr. And I couldn't get through, anyway - not through Explorer nor Firefox. I kept getting the message that the ticket service was unavailable due to routine maintenance.

You thought 10:00 because as of yesterday, it was 10:00. I even received a promo email from Ticketmaster yesterday, saying it was 10:00. At some point, they changed to 9:00 for the shows in this area, with 10:00 for the others that went on sale today.

Thanks, nohero. I am so disappointed.

Pretty cheesy that it was changed at the last minute.
