Cliven Bundy ranch

How is it that these folks can just come and go as they please, to eat in diners, get their mail, etc.  Am I missing something?

You can't be expected to stage an occupation without modern creature comforts.

White privilege.

Its a free country. You can do those things when you're not in jail or not on restricted bail like home arrest.

Talk to the Obama admin. They are the ones giving them another pass, as was given to the previous illegal cattle grazing when militias then threatened federal and local LEO with their loaded weapons.

Some here say, wait them out. Would they feel the same if a militia occupied the reservoir, while militia members are walking and riding around this community with their openly loaded weapons? With schools having to be closed due to possible dangers?

Its convenient saying LEO should wait it out when its not your community.

If the reservoir was 30 miles away, if the schools reopened after a week, and if nobody ended up dead? So far, yes.

But not if its 10 miles away?

And if no one ended up dead? Sentimental rubbish. Lets ignore criminal laws because arresting criminals may result in death. That rapist down the block, lets wait him out because he has a gun and we don't want to see anyone dead. Ditto that burglar, bank robber, murderer. Lets not have the police go to anyones house to serve a warrant because someone may end up dead.

Anyway, one of the loonies has been arrested. He has a history:

The first member of the armed Oregon occupation that took over a federal wildlife refuge has been arrested.
One of the protesters, Kenneth Medenbach, 62, was taken into custody Friday for unauthorized use of a vehicle after driving a government van to a Safeway supermarket.
....
Medenbach had bail set at 10,000, according to the Oregonian, though his release may be more complicated because of previous federal cases against him.
The longtime opponent of the federal government was convicted for illegally camping at Washington’s Gifford Pinchot National Forest in Washington state and attempting to defend his camp with explosives, a grenade and trip wires.

Nothing like going camping and falling over a loonies trip wire set with explosives and grenades.

finally, an arrest. One of the dillwads was arrested for taking one of the refuge vehicles and driving it into town.

Unauthorized use of the vehicle.

Dildo delivery? Sheesh, now they'll never leave. Send a vat of lube and they'll be set for the winter.

 oh oh

“It needs to be very clear that these buildings will never, ever return to the federal government,” said LaVoy Finicum, one of the leaders of the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

I see I'm not the only one who places the blame where it should be.

The governor of Oregon blamed federal authorities for their handling of the weeks-long armed occupation of a wildlife refuge in her state.
“The residents of Harney County have been overlooked and underserved by federal officials’ response thus far,” Democratic Governor Kate Brown said at a news conference Wednesday.
Brown, along with local residents, has become increasingly frustrated as anti-government protesters led by rancher Ammon Bundy enter their 20th day with control over the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near the east Oregon city of Burns.
In her news conference she repeated calls for the occupation to end its encampment immediately, but also took issue with national officials, who have told her not to speak about the situation to avoid escalation.
The governor said in a speech broadcast on Oregon Public Radio that her state is spending about 100,000 per week dealing with the problem, and asserted that she would ask the federal government for reimbursement.
She said, “This spectacle of lawlessness must end, and until Harney County is free of it, I will not stop insisting that federal officials enforce the law.

You know who would go in and sort this whole thing out?

Raylan F. Givens.

That this is allowed to continue is an absolute disgrace.

I understand not wanting to use lethal force on these A-Holes because it would cause an uproar, but can't we get some of those wildfire helicopters and start dousing the place with water?  A good case of frostbite and hypothermia will end this quickly.  And if they shoot at the helicopters, then that is a much more serious crime that will require a heavier response.

Half of these guys went to that town meeting (where about 80% of the people very clearly told them to leave). Why not arrest them outside in the parking lot? Or at a roadblock 5 miles outside town? It's bizarre.

It's more than bizarre-- it's unconscionable.

(And LOST, yes I thought about adding that... the comparison instantly came to mind, their misguided desire to return some of the boxes to the tribe notwithstanding.)

New reports coming out that Bundy has been arrested.

CNN reporting one killed in the raid.

Sounds like they had a shootout at a traffic stop.

Guess they read your post, Rob. That is exactly what they did.

The tarp guy was the one killed.

These guys are a bunch of irresponsible buffoons.  Now they are crying that they wanted a "peaceful ending."  If they wanted a "peaceful ending," then they shouldn't have brought guns to their little hissy-fit protest and issued threats that they were going to kill law enforcement officers.  The guy that died was the spokesman for the group and he recently said he'd rather die than surrender.  Looks like he got his wish.

They brought this on themselves and now a man is dead.  How very sad.

Living life in a western cowboy fantasy and dying in a blaze of glory - seems only fitting. Lavoy, we hardly knew ya...and we're thankful for that.

But you died with your boots on. RIP, Pardner.

Suicide by law enforcement. Feel bad for the officer and the idiot's family.  Not a martyr.

also of interest, this idiot had 11 foster kids. How responsible of child services was this?

Having worked in farm country in upstate NY, I met some families that take in foster kids to help on the farm, as well as bring in income from the state...

When they took his foster kids away he complained that the government was depriving him of his main source of income.
