Charlie Sheen will announce he's HIV+ on Today Show with Lauer...

well, by definition it does if the blackmail is about others revealing his secret.

so, Jenny McCarthy who played Sheen's  love interest for a while on two and a half men is mad this wasn't disclosed to her.  WTH?!?? I am confused, do actors actually engage in sex acts on set? Why on earth would this bimbo think she had a right to know his HIV status?

Much like her years of (natch) based-on-science perspectives on autism and vaccines, she continues to share her expert public health perspective with the world.

oh, so going public helps stop the blackmail. Oy.

Blackmail? I'm on the fence about this. Was he protecting himself from those whom he claims saw his meds, took pics of them to sell or was he protecting himself from those who saw the meds, took pics but were NEVER told of his HIV status? Pictures can be used for the tabloids and to secure an attorney.

Jenny Mc is a fame whore. She's acting like her love scenes with Sheen were true to life. They kissed on screen. They cuddled. Unless she's an idiot, and me thinks she is, HIV cannot be transferred this way. But remember, this is the same chick who littered the airwaves with her accusations and reports regarding immunizations and how they cause autism. She gives blonds a bad name.

her medical expertise is vast.

The damage that an idiot like her can do with an ignorant comment...

I think the blackmail is pretty straightforward- he didn't want anyone to know. Now they know and the blackmail is over.

Now, the lawsuits continue (and escalate) but it's not blackmail anymore.

"I mean, not that you can obviously get it through kissing, but still, that's a big deal." That's her quote. Sound medical advice right there.

It seems likely that he revealed it to get out in front of the message. It was almost inevitable that someone was going to use it as a bombshell to get attention and make him look terrible. By doing it first, he had some chance of controlling at least some of the "big reveal."

It's a problem for Sheen that so many of the people he has slept with over the years are attention whores and sleazy people with limited intelligence and moral codes. His former bed mates must be drooling at this opportunity to get out there and sling mud for money and infamy. A disgusting scene all around, IMO.

Charlie's announcement on the Today Show coincides with the National Enquirer's release of the story. They announced his HIV status via their website on November 16th and the magazine hit newsstands November 18th. According to the main National Enquirer, they have been working on this piece for 18 months and had solid evidence of him having the virus. I'm sure one of his playmates took pictures to the NE and many gave stories. It was going to come out. He really didn't get ahead of anything.

Wow. Even the NI should be ashamed of that headline. A new low even for them. AIDS. just wow. The world really is this ignorant.

And I'd sue the pants off that magazine for disclosing private medical information. How is that okay?

Yes, completely agree.

Not so important, but 2 pet peeves on one cover:

1. "HIV virus".  Don't they know what the "V" in HIV stands for?

2. Conflating HIV and AIDS.  They are not synonymous, FFS.

Yes... I now have no idea whether he just tested positive for exposure or is actually sick! That's a really big deal. For that I probably would sue.

huh? I think you're missing the two distinct points:

1) the ignorance and bias with which people discuss HIV/AIDs 30+ years later is troubling. The use of the words HIV and AIDS interchangeably for example. Even the NI should be ashamed

2) a printed story revealing anyone's private medical information is disgusting. It should be illegal. He shouldn't have to divulge if he didn't want to and certainly not because a story was going to be published

Those are both points that were already made. How many times would you like them repeated?

I took this to be sarcastic, poking fun at our concern and, as such, possibly indicative of not really understanding my points.

Um. No. Next time, ask.
