Bring Out Your Dead! The celebrity death thread....

The thing of it -- he was a decent human being.  A well respected mayor in his home town.

I never judge a talk show host by their guests..,.

Famed British writer, and author of 'London Fields' among other works, Martin Amis has died at the age of 73, after suffering from cancer of the oesophagus.

Nicholas Gray, 86, Dies; Paired Hot Dogs With Papaya to Make a Landmark

Oddly enough, I just bought a big thing of papaya juice at Costco the other day.  I will have the raise a glass of POG in his honor.

Tina Turner.

Age 83.

Incomparable. Here's a performance with a Maplewood connection:

Tina Turner was the first person I ever saw live in concert... It was in the summer in Saratoga Springs in the mid-1980's. She was phenomenal.

I was in the theater for this. As good as it was on TV in the room it was electric.

And then topped it with this.

Every time I saw her after not seeing her for a while, she would look as young and strong and dazzling as the last time.  May she still be "rolling on a river" when we see her next.  Rest in pillows, dear Tina.

Someone posted this and and I believe this is the place to post it. RIP to the real Queen.

Even Hong Kong Tourism Bureau chose Tina.

Are you aware of her iconic link with the NRL (rugby league) here, since 1989?  This is 1990’s Simply The Best

1989’s What You See Is What You Get

She came here to film these, performing with the players, and at the Finals games.

And don’t forget she also filmed Mad Max here…

We don’t need another another hero…concert-style

I hate those false death announcements that seem to become more prevalent online by the minute.  But checking other sources ... Bruce Willis is NOT dead .... ("yet", just like all of us.)

I think Tina Turner is our most popular dead celebrity in the brief history of this forum.

Oh, I loved her songs!   songwriter Cynthia Weil has died, aged 82:

Me, too. And still together with Barry Mann after all these years.

I like this ramshackle cover by one of my favorite active bands.

Another Weil-Mann classsic:

Ipanema Girl, Astrud Gilberto, has died at the age of 83.

She became an overnight superstar in 1964, after singing 'The Girl from Ipanema'.

The song won a Grammy in 1965 for Record of the Year, with Gilberto receiving nominations for the Best New Artist.

and for those that want to do a deep dive on the song

George Winston (1949-2023)

December is one of my favorite albums.

RIP

Pat Robertson.

Thank you, Jesus.
