Rob Ford, Toronto's ex-mayor and admitted crack user, dead at 46.

I missed the radio version this morning as I was getting ready for work, but reading this brought a tear to my eye. That poor man.

Bless all of the people who reached out to him... if only it had been 20 years earlier!

OMG, I heard the heartbreaking original story and the very touching follow-up.

May he rest in blessed peace forever.

Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest has passed away at age 45.

One of the original athletes who crossed over from sportscasting into general TV roles hosting the "Today" show and some game shows.

Ken Howard, who played Thomas Jefferson in B'way and film versions of 1776 and The Great White Hope on TV, dead at 71.

His stage roles ran the gamut of reputed presidential intelligence as he was Jefferson in "1776" and Warren Harding in "Camping with Henry and Tom."

Because it was about high-school basketball players, a lot of people might have skipped "The White Shadow," but he was very good and the show dealt with a lot of serious topics well.

Microphone check 1, 2 what is this

The five foot assassin with the roughneck business

I float like gravity, never had a cavity

Got more rhymes than the Winans got family

Phife was nice with it. He will be missed.

Gary Shandling. Age 66. RIP.

Peter Brown age 80 from the Lawman Series.  Still remember John Russell tossing him a rifle in the opening scene.

I'm guessing Author and probably Ridski would be aware of the death of that legendary Dutch footballer, Johan Cruyff.

Larry Sanders Show was amazing. Did 30 Rock nearly 20 years before 30 Rock.

Yep. I saw that this morning. Absolute legend.

I wanted to write earlier, but didn't know how important it would be in the US.

I'm sure a significant chunk of your youth has melted in the past couple of weeks... Sigh. And you're not that old, mate!

2 days over 45 and my 1970s heros are disappearing like fireflies in the summer skies.

You might appreciate this, joanne, by the way. A while ago I used to write a blog about my love for the 70s, a decade I hated in the 80s and 90s. Some of the stuff I wrote about might be familiar to you, or any of the other Brits out there. I moved it off blogspot and put it on my own site, but couldn't keep it up, so the hosted site died, but the blogspot posts are still there, including my legendary "10 Great 70s Games" and "10 70s Songs Which Should Never Have Been Released". If only I had the mental energy to write blog posts like those these days.

oh oh You're right! Esp Liver Birds, and some of those games!!!

Ken Howard, Coach in The White Shadow and former SAG president, dead at 71

Jeez that guy Shandling now?

Anybody feeling celebrity folks and stars are 'dropping like flys'

Is it the multitude of baby boomers all going at the same time?

I dont know. we're all getting old and time flies

No, I don't really think so, lord_pabulum. I think that if you were of an earlier generation, you'd see the same thing. It's just our time for the celebrities we grew up with to start dying, even if we believe they're too young.

I hope Garry Shandling gets his wish and a boxing ref counts him out at his funeral.
