Banned List

There are plenty of times when I type out what I would normally say in a conversation, for example I may affectionately call someone an idiot, as in "of course not, you idiot!", but I reel it in.

Plenty of times my best friend is the "Back to Discussions" links underneath the comment box.

It's difficult because sometimes people are idiots.

You are good! Also, jersey boy taught me to say "Thanks for letting me know." ;-)

Oh man. I love "bless your heart." Or his or her heart. I was taught by a southerner that you could say anything about anyone if you followed it with, " Bless their heart." It makes all of the anger in the first part of the statement dissipate. It just becomes a difference in us that is no longer worth mentioning, bless their heart.

I miss Lars too, bless her heart.

Well to tell the truth, I miss Strawberry. If ever anyone could start a food fight on a perfectly calm summer afternoon it was Straw. And he could create new identities at the drop of a hat.

Colorado............color red............Strawberry. He was like a character from Batman.

In our part of the country, you can pretty much say anything you want to anyone as long as you follow it or precede it with "with all due respect."

With all due respect, you're a jackass. I mean, you wouldn't know a logical argument if it hit you with a 2X4 you idiot. And I say that with all due respect.

Had to bite my typing fingers on that penultimate posting. ;-)

And he's been back since then, as well. As one of our most recently banned folks, perhaps he was changing his ID to a more "electronic" motif ??

instead of insulting someone in your post, you could just embed an Odd Couple video:

Nah... Can't imagine that works here, Bless your heart. Thanks for letting me know. >smile<

Or you can use "I'm just sayin'"

if someone gets upset at you, even if you've given them all due respect, you just reply with "No, I'm just sayin'"

"You calling me an idiot?"

"No, I'm just sayin'..."

"With all due respect" is my favorite prefatory phrase.

Some folks get it, some don't. It's a little amusement when "doing a meeting".

Why do I dislike "With all due respect" ? To my ears it sounds so condescending. I would much prefer "I hear you but I differ." Is that what you are trying to say? I just want a bless my heart or thanks for letting me know. I don't feel that with all due respect. I still feel like an outsider.

Dumb question: how do you look up a user name?
If you are looking at one of their posts, just click on the username and you will see the info about them. Otherwise, you might be able to search on the username as a keyword and find it that way. (Or search on a topic that you know is near and dear ... for example, to find Rcarter31, just search on Secret Garden.)

I actually think this would still get you banned if Dave or Jamie see it, maybe for a shorter period of time (?)

"With all due respect. . ." only works in person. And it only has a calming effect on the discussion because anyone who says it is assumed to have a concealed weapon and/or another guy or guys backing him up (who also have concealed weapons.)

I'm just sayin'.

dare I open this thread? ahh too late...

The irony in this post is simply killing me.

If you can't make your argument without resorting to names, you've already lost it. That's why I so vehemently discourage people from commenting on Christie's weight. If you can't argue why he has been bad for the state (in this case) without referring to him as a fat f***, your argument is invalid. Name calling is always unnecessary.

In the northeast, "with all due respect" is the equivalent to "bless your heart" in the south. It's a nice way of calling someone an idiot.

What is....that suppose...d to mean....?

A well placed question asking for clarification of a weak point in someone's argument can have a far more devastating impact than calling that person an idiot. Their response, if one is provided, is often sufficient to demonstate this aspect of the person's character without your having to do it yourself. Furthermore, if anyone gets banned as a result of this difference of opinion, it won't be you.
