Banned List

I can never figure out the alternate usernames. When someone posts that "so-and-so" is now "so-and-so," I'm, like, doh!

Give me the username and you'll have a list of questionable posts within 120 seconds.

I used to be buffalojoe...or did I used to be Soul29? Cant remember now.

Hank/Mary is that due to being banned or forgetting usernames/passwords?

Hank is kidding. I've never been banned. I was referring to the fact that so many people here recognize people with new usernames.

It can be for many reasons. Sometimes due to being banned, sometimes because they want anonymity and their first username doesn't have that for whatever reason. Probably other reasons. I doubt that forgotten usernames/passwords are that big an issue. I can't remember for sure, but I think you can recover/reset a lost password. And I don't think people forget their usernames very often, if ever.

The funny thing is, per his telling of it, is that he did not do anything wrong other than post to some threads with some frequency and with high engagement. No profanity, no personal attacks and nothing trolling or shady. No explanation given. As I'm on here as well, I was asked to clarify.

It's not "funny", it's what they all say, when invited to travel to "the left coast" for a while.

Cheaters never win. ;-)

Yes they do oh oh

Well, it's my understanding that there's often no explanation given. However, your friend might look/think back through his posts to see if he called someone an idiot, because I think there's a post from someone else shortly after that, saying that your friend won't be with us for a while. Not sure which thread or user name.

People get banned for getting obsessive or crazy, such as alice31 (?) recently, even if they haven't actually attacked anyone. I think the snow in Boston got to her.

If it was techman, I'll be happy to see the end of him.

Also, I think you have to ask to be reinstated. It's not like you get a sentence of a certain length and then your privileges are automatically restored. I've seen normally good citizens lose it, get banned, and return the next day.

Coming from Brooklyn, at a moment of frustration I said "what are you, dense?" I honestly did not know it was a personal attack. When it was said to me it meant to me I was not paying attention to another's point of view and I listened harder. I guess in NJ it didn't have the same meaning. I was banned but forgiven once I begged to come back. wink

Name calling - i.e. casting aspersions on the poster (as opposed to on their expressed views, which is allowed) is one of the most common reasons for banning, from what I've observed.

Yeah well. Now I know better. confused

This. One is allowed to say "What an idiotic thing to say" but not "You are an idiot".

Somehow, this just makes me want to giggle... oh oh

While we are on the subject, is there such a thing as a life time ban?

Another one I got called out on (this time from a personal message from Dave) was stereotyping. I happen to enjoy the differences in cultures. He pm'd me to say that was dangerously close to banning to make broad statements about cultures.

Hmm... I haven't picked up on any Lars posts. She was always good for shock and awe.

You can probably also get banned for pointing out that the site is run by the Illuminati from the basement of the Bilderberg Hotel.

There are those who get banned and just come back like me or Terp and there are those who get banned and get pissed and walk away like Lars and Pennboy.

Pennboy was pissed before MOL. This just gave him a place to vent it.

I don't think you get banned for that. I just think they sprinkle your posts with enough crazy comments to not let anyone take you seriously anymore. ;-)

The Oracle told me that he's been banned from MOL for eternity, but that he's considering a time-warp dealie that'll let him post as Marie...

-s.

Dumb question: how do you look up a user name?

So should I have said what a dense thing to say? It is unfortunate to have a point of view and not have it acknowledged. (Truthfully, I did not acknowledge hers either. She probably thought I wasn't listening either and was being "dense.")

He was also only banned twice and came back twice as Pennboy1 and Pennboy2. Pennboy2 isn't banned. He could come back at any time.

Sort of like if you've had chicken pox, there's always the chance it will return as shingles.
