Achievements of the Day: Post something you did today that made you proud!

doulamomma,

Thanks. My teen thinks that I am "bragging" if I proudly proclaim something that I have done. She thinks that I will make others who have not done the same thing feel bad.

I disagree. I happen to be a very optimistic gal. In addition to counting my blessings daily I like to celebrate those sweet, seemingly unimportant, accomplishments of each day.

When the bad stuff hits, I will acknowledge it, deal with it and tap into that big vat of happy memories I have purposefully collected to get me through it all.

I have cared for a series of sick family members for 8 consecutive days. (That darned "creeping crud" should also be called the Boomerang Disease!)

Today's achievement is that we are down to ONLY one sick family member. Woo Hoo!

I have not eaten any chocolate yet today.

Well, it was yesterday... Spilling into today.

Went to a Super Bowl party yesterday, I agreed to bring all the desserts. Baked my @$$ off, made homemade cannolis, mocha chocolate cake, mini cheesecakes, shortbread cookies and fruit platter.
ALL without using any boxed mixes.

People raved about the desserts. My friend who hosted the party took some left overs to work & her collegues all raved. Hubby took some to his boss, he raved... Hubby gave some to an acquaintance ( who has tasted some of my other baked goods in the past) & who happens to be opening a high end restaurant and HE now wants to speak to ME about being the pastry chef!

Considering I have been out of work a year and was considering a career change, this could not come at a better time!! oh oh

Wish me luck!!

Fought back with an out of control "committee" for the long term care and impact on a natural resource.

Best Regards,

Fight the good fight, RC!

Today I cleaned out most of the stuff from my son's room that we had been storing in there from back when we used the room as an office. Was inspired by the battery recycling thread. There were a lot of out-of-charge batteries on the shelf in his closet. Now his closet and shelves are much better organized.

big, happy accomplishment: knock wood, Verizon wireless has just replaced an iPhone 4s under warranty (which wasn't even what I asked for) and switched the color (they are not supposed to) in-house (via fedex/customer service) because I called to complain about Asurion, the phone insurance provider. I was totally expecting to pay the $199 for the cracked screen but just wanted them to know that Asurion had screwed up last week, thinking I had put in a claim (I had not - it was fraud by someone in FL & they had already referred it to that department before I even called; my account security was not compromised). Then when I actually did need to put in a claim, there was (through a clerical error) no record that I had insurance...and once corrected, I would need to fill out a 2 page affidavit to protect against fraud (oh the irony!)...so all I wanted was to vent to Verizon and see if they could take my $$ inhouse rather than going through Asurion, who pissed me off. Not only did they agree, but they didn't charge me (not sure how it was covered under warranty - I think the supervisor was just being very nice - and in the preferred color and free overnight shipping both ways!) Yay!

This makes me smile and it's all about saying something nice!

After 17 years of near constant use we had to unplug our (pre-owned) espresso machine and let it go to the big scrap metal heap in the sky. Today I brought home our new "baby." I am so pleased that I successfully negotiated all sorts of price breaks for the purchase. It has some superficial dents and scratches and required some new interior parts but I got it for less than 40% of retail AND got them to throw in some cleaners for free! A very pleasant transaction indeed.

I taught fifty inner-city kids about the Declaration of Independence, the events of the American Revolutionary War in the northern colonies, and the river valley empires of ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, giving them some films on the subjects we have been discussing for the past seven school days. Actually very fun.

Good for you, elspeth! I was always indifferent to history because of a series of mediocre high-school history teachers who focused on major dates of Texas history and the Civil War. But in junior college I took a class on the ancient world from an instructor who was so passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, she really made it come to life. It gave me a love of history that has stayed with me all my life, although my eyes still glaze over at the mention of the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War. I'll read about pretty much anything BUT those two subjects!

I put air in the car's tires (and hubster hadn't even nagged me to do it!)

I have lived in PA for almost 6 years now and have yet to pump my own gas ( hubby does it for me).

Maybe this belongs in the confession thread.?!

Thanks, Kathnry:

I don't emphasize dates, and my public high school curriculum does not either. It's now about "open-ended questions" so students actually have to think "what if?" instead of memorizing "when." I like history taught that way.

I've become a very active member of the Conservancy. We've done some great work restoring the reservation since Hurricane Irene and the Halloween snowstorm. Yesterday my friend and I spent a couple of hours further clearing a section of trail and repairing some damage to a fence.
I look forward to working with her a lot more, especially now that the season is starting.

Packed up bags 9, 10 and 11 of books to give away. Unpacked and packed other stuff all day. Threw some stuff out. Staring at a pile of kids' games and wondering if I'll be needing any to keep my old brain sharp.

Nah, you can use an iPad for that!
Good Job!

Well, this is cool. I went to 6am kickboxing, and wrote something that my new boss liked!

"Kicked" a good idea loose huh? grin

@kmk - that might just be it oh oh

climbing antiquated ladder to the attic

Snuck out of work early. Caught the 4:09 and as far as I know nobody is the wiser. Yay me!

I got my classes to be absolutely silent for each other as they finished their midterms!!!

I stuck to Day Two of my new and improved lifestyle of food, exercise, and meditation. And I found a mistake in the sheet music for a duet I'm singing at church on Good Friday.

FINALLY arranged for -- and just put out -- curbside pickup of a weird collection of crap: rusty old firepit with cover, wagon, deflated kiddie pool, old rug.

I avoided posting a response to the mindless partisan drivel in soapbox...

I started taking Hotline calls two days a week for the NJ CFS Assn.

These are is so great! I am so inspired by all of the positive steps you all have taken.
