Manet And Degas: Making the World Modern

Édouard Manet and Edgar Degas, born only two years apart, were friends, rivals and at times, antagonists who worked to define modern painting in France. Both artists portrayed contemporary life candidly, sometimes shocking the art world with their highly original visions. 

This two-part series, one part on Manet on October 2 and one on Degas on October 9, will prepare you well to enjoy The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s extraordinary exhibition, Manet/Degas, which runs from September 2023 to January 2024. We will see amazing paintings and discover how Manet’s and Degas’ artistic objectives and approaches overlapped and diverged.
