The Civic Engagement Institute is a free six week workshop offered to South Orange and Maplewood residents who are interested in developing skills and gaining information that are useful for volunteering with community organizations and in personal and professional life. Up to 30 participants will receive instruction in 1) time management 2) individual personality assessment and interpretation valued at $75 or more 3) advocacy and change dynamics training and more. One session will include brief presentations from South Orange Village and Maplewood Township officials about the town governments and the committees that support them. In return for this valuable training experience, participants must agree to volunteer for at least 6 months with a local organization of their choicer. Volunteer opportunities will be presented by local civic groups and government committees at the final session. All sessions run from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Saturday mornings.
