That's good news. That part of Wyoming Ave. really needs to be repaved. It's terrible.

Corrected error in time frame.

I may be a recently moved in resident slash naif, but can someone explain why the town doesn't maintain a budget for repaving the roads? It seems almost all of the secondary/tertiary roads are in TERRIBLE shape.

...Mountain, Crestwood, Northwoods and Great Hills drives will have their surfaces milled and paved, their storm and sanitary sewer drains replaced as needed and their deteriorated curbs removed and replaced with Belgian block curbing over the course of the summer. The project began June 22 and is expected to be completed by early September, Lewis said.
According to Lewis, the project will cost approximately $1.1 million and will be paid for by the village’s bond-funded capital improvement program. Lewis said the village is undertaking this project due to the dire condition of the streets.
“The village prioritizes road repairs based on the condition,” Lewis said in a July 10 email. “These roads were among the most deteriorated in the entire village.”...

So basic maintenance isn't on the table, just drastic repairs to roads so far shot that they're totally broken. Are potholes even patched?

Re Wyoming Avenue repairs..Wyoming is a County Road and is maintained and repaired by Essex County.

Ah the attitude today: Pave our streets, but don't you dare raise our taxes!

Thanks LL oh oh I did know that, and some roads are the responsibility of Essex (which has little else to worry about). More interested in the smaller town roads that are in terrible shape, especially the E/W routes down the hill

Carefully measured lack of maintenance is the poor man's speed bumps.

Howard - Thanks for posting. A couple questions:

1. Will people who live on Wyoming be notified in advance of the specific days that access between our driveways and the street will be prohibited?

2. Will we be able to get permission for overnight on-street parking on nearby side streets?

I don't have an answer to your first comment yet but the second is yes if you use SOConnect to request overnight parking - http://southorange.org/publicstuff.asp

This....my East-West downhill road is used as a convenient shortcut around a traffic light, and is also an approach road to an elementary school.

Although its condition is terrible, I do not look forward to a complete repair job, as it would make it easier for people to hurtle down the hill.

I call in potholes, but I don't beg for repairs.

When they did South Wyoming last year i think it only took a week, we live on s wy and we could access our home every day during the work - they even put in temporary curbs for us to get up into our drive - why is this so much longer? Is it a different vendor ?

I am on N. Wyoming just a block from Luddington... if the road is closed, I wonder how my kids will be picked up and dropped off by their camp bus. Anyone know if we will be receiving any advance notifications? I'm fairly certain access to my driveway will not be available based on the oP as there are major potholes right in front of my house. Cars are usually driving in the shoulder on the approach as the road is awful right there. (as is most of N. Wyoming).

@yonti, this was just posted to the PD social media and will go out on the town website momentarily. Also, patrols and parking authority will extend courtesy to area residents who must park on street overnight. Still, for good measure you should reach out to parking authority or the PD to have your vehicle entered into the overnight log. (If after parking authority business hours, do not use SOconnect for the request, contact the PD directly).

Starting on Monday August 3rd (weather permitting), Essex County will begin milling and paving North Wyoming Avenue from the West Orange line (Luddington Rd) to West South Orange Ave. Milling should take three days and will start on 8/3. Paving will commence the following week, date to be announced. Construction will be broken up into three sections (indicated below). Sections not being worked on will remain drivable but may have some traffic interruption(s). Parking restrictions on Wyoming Ave to take effect on 8/3. Please plan your commute accordingly and as always, share this notice to help get the word out.

ETA: Schedule

Monday - Luddington Rd to Forest Rd

Tuesday - Forest Rd to Tillou Rd

Wednesday - Tillou Rd to West South Orange Ave

Does anyone have an update on the paving schedule and related driving restrictions for this week? Last week didn't follow the revised schedule, both in terms of days and hours.

I'm on N Wyoming and Franklin and I hear the trucks gearing up. Paving to start?
