why?

Do women think it's okay to sit on a crowded train and put on makeup? That's bathroom behavior, no?

At least she's not filing her foot calluses. True story.

I don't know why they put on eye makeup while driving. I get creeped out by the thought of a mascara applicator being jabbed into an eyeball.

Or the sounds of 'clip, clip, clip'. Totally inappropriate train behavior.

And then she go up and left her cup of coffee right on the floor in front of the seat. What a peach she must be.

Well the coffee cup thing is rude. But the makeup application never bothered me. I always thought that was pretty innocuous. Plus I get the whole trying to save time in the morning.

We're all under a lot of stress in our lives. She's not leaving discarded bits of herself (nail cutting? Ew.) so she can put on her eyeliner on the train as far as I'm concerned.

Now when you're doing your mascara behind the wheel on the GWB...

Applying makeup is a definite etiquette violation but IMO it's a victimless crime so to speak, that is unless the violator has her elbows out and is infringing on the space of others or something.
I save my rants for other stuff that does directly infringe on others, which there is no shortage of examples -- eating which may entail odors and/or noisy smacking, loud phone conversations, spreading out beyond your seat with bags and/or your body, etc etc ad nauseam.

It's disgusting and clueless. Some people lack any sense of boundaries.

I agree. It disgusts me completely. Once, when a lady was applying blusher on a morning train, I got up, walked past her and threw up in her lap. Filthy women should do their lady business behind locked doors. Preferably at least two.

Yeah, I've never gotten why this bugs some people. Doing something loud or smelly, ugh, but makeup? "Disgusting and clueless?" It doesn't bother me any more than someone texting or playing on their phone, and probably has less impact on her immediate neighbors than reading a paper. Why is this a thing?

Similarly, I would be mortified if I knew that the performance review I was being given by phone by a colleague at my financial firm could be heard throughout an entire train car.

It's makeup application, not tampon insertion!!!! Geez!

But she started to put coverup makeup on her cleavage too.

Okay - I made that part up cheese

Not sure why, I just think its one of those things you do in private.

Oh, and it wasn't me;I don't commute. If I did, though, I would. I actually keep my makeup in my car, to do if my husband is driving us somewhere. It only takes me 5 minutes, and it is an efficient use of the time. Compared to what I usually see people doing in their cars, and I just gagged a bit recalling a few, applying makeup is downright decorous!

If she were applying cleavage makeup, and you made her stop, some men might encourage you to find another train car! ;-)

No if she was doing that I would have offered to help cheese

She actually had a seemingly large makeup kit on her lap too

For some people, It's more of a whole home remodel!

This bothers me too, but I recognize that it shouldn't.

If they start tweezing, all bets are off though.

question grin)

^ LOL! I am a repeat offender. I only take the train occasionally (not today) but when I do I typically put on my makeup on the train.. I don't wear a ton of makeup and it only takes me 5 minutes to apply (Eye liner, mascara, blush, lip gloss). But with a 3yr old around, 5 minutes is the difference between making the train or waiting for the next one. I did not realize I was bugging those around me so much!

Gimme a break. Disgusting how???

I don't get it either. I've never done it (and I no longer take the train), but it doesn't bother me at all.

I would think those around me would be glad that I put on some makeup! The before could be considered more "unpleasant" to the eye than the after!

I'm surprised others are questionsing this. IMO it is totally disgusting to put on make up on a train car. And yes, I am a woman who has on make up every single time I ride the train - but I put mine on at home (with 3 little kids at my feet). When you put on powder, blush etc. some of it becomes air borne and can be inhaled or fall on your shirt - someone else's - especially in the close proximity of a train car. I don't want to wear someone else's makeup - nor do I want to inhale it. Again, IMO only, but only self-entitled women believe their lives are such that this is warranted or necessary.

Exactly. I don't need to be tasting anyone's foundation in the morning, thank-you-very-much.

Well since I only put on eyeliner, mascara, a little bit of blush (the creamy type), and lipgloss I think you will be safe from the damage my makeup application may cause to your person.

Must be nice to go through life in such a fill-in-the-blank fashion. I'm in awe, truly.
