I'm looking on eBay for some old postcards and came across this 1923 ad for a house--I bet the current owner of the house would love to have this (or, at least I would if I was the owner). I'm thinking this is on Wyoming somewhere?
While it could easily be a home I just never noticed before, there is also the possibility that the house is n o longer standing. If it is still there I would love to know where it is so I could see what it looks like today.
It reminds me of some of the larger homes on Mountain Ave (between Ridgewood and Wyoming), but I can't say if it is actually one of them. I know that there are some beautiful houses on that street.
"8 minutes to the station" is a clue... seems like Mountain would both be too close for that, and on Ridgewood you'd be looking closer to South Orange. Wyoming makes sense but I can't picture it.
Actually an eight minute walk to the station is about right for Mountain. However, I think the house looks more like something along Prospect orMountainview.
Between Oakview and Park Road, below and parallel to Prospect. There are only 5 or 6 houses on the street. The property abuts the town hall property (back by the greenhouse) in the back.
@ffof, let me know if they want to purchase the listing....I was thinking of being vaguely creepy and mailing it to them now that the mystery of which house it is has been solved! i don't want to be creepy but they should really have that! It's a beautiful house.
@Afa: Not creapy at all. Complete strangers once stopped at our house and gave us a framed copy of an old real estate listing for our house. Their gesture was very much appreciated. We still have that listing on display in our livingroom.
The new owners moved in maybe last year. IIRC, it had been owned for a long time by the same couple before it was sold. I think it was a time capsule at the time it was sold.
