WHERE'S WALLACE?? Cat Missing One Week From Prospect Place Home in South Orange

LOST CAT!!!!! Our much loved cat, Wallace, got out of the house (Prospect Place near Academy in South Orange) exactly one week ago today and has not been seen since. Can you help us find him? He is greatly missed. Wallace is an INDOOR cat and was not wearing a collar. He's a large neutered male, but not fat. He's extraordinarily unafraid of people in the safety of his home. He may be more nervous outside. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: There are a lot of black cats running around, but he had dental surgery in May to remove a bad front fang. His only remaining front fang is on the left. He also has a very distinctive brown patch in the golden iris of his left eye. We would be so grateful if local friends and neighbors could help spread the word! If anyone has seen him, or thinks they may have seen him, email me at bjellis@igc.org. Thank you!

Here's a close up showing his single front fang and the brown patch in his left eye. Thank you so much if you can help!

Any news onWallace?

Still no sign of Wallace. His microchip is registered with HOMEAGAIN, so if he had been taken as a stray to a shelter, or to a vet's office, or if he had been killed or injured and picked up by animal control, he would have been scanned and we would have been notified. This leads me to believe that he MUST still be out there, somewhere! Thanks to all if you spread the word. Thank you~

If he has a chip, I would still notify shelters and vets' offices in the area so they can keep their eyes open and know when they see him that they should call you. He is a handsome boy and seems like he would be pretty easy to identify.

Meanwhile, an indoor cat that has run out usually stays near his own house, so check in the shrubs, under porches and decks, in your garage and your neighbors' garages, anywhere he might have gotten shut in by accident. And spread the word in your immediate neighborhood. He might very well be hanging around, but hidden because that's what cats like to do. They are mysterious that way.

If he's still in the area, he is within 200 feet of his house, under a porch or in a garage or someplace similar.

Have you posted flyers in the neighborhood with pic?

Don't give up. A rescue cat escaped that had only been on my property overnight and she came back 3 weeks later! Keep putting his favorite food out.

I'll email a friend in your area and ask her to email it around.

There was a recent case on an MOL thread of a cat that was missing for two months and strolled back in one day. It happens all the time. Cats are funny, but when the weather is nice, at least you don't have to worry about them freezing. Still, keep on looking and talking about his departure with all those in the area. You don't want him to have an encounter with a car or a raccoon.

Check with your neighbors to make sure Wallace didn't accidentally get locked in someone's garage. This used to happen to our cat several times a year, when family from out of town would visit our neighbors down the street. Our cat would waltz into their garage, take a nap, then find that Grandpa had conscientiously shut the garage door.

Unfortunately, the situation can get dangerous when people leave on vacation, having accidentally confined an animal to a garage or shed without food or water.

We shut in a lovely calico cat once without having a clue she was in our garage. She began to meow very loudly when she found the situation distressing, but it took me an hour or so to figure out where the sound was coming from (detached garage). I opened the door, and out she sauntered, scolding me all the while. I gave her some water and some wet food, we had a nice conversation about animal rights, and she strolled away. She came back once or twice, and I had just decided she was a stray and that I would take her in, when she disappeared for good. I have always hoped she just went home.
