Where can I get Glatt Kosher take-out food for Shabbos? archived

I don't think Zayda's qualifies, but I would think there must be some place in West Orange or Livingston.

Thanks.
Depends what you are looking for but ShopRite in Livingston and WO has a glatt deli. They have rotisserie chicken (which I think is good but is not always available) and a variety of other main and side dishes that can be reheated.

If you want it for tonight however you better hustle as they close early.

How about Maple Kosher Meats in the Millburn Mall on Vauxhall Road?

They are definitely not glatt

There's Jerusalem West in Livingston

Jerusalem West, 99 West Mount Pleasant Ave., Livingston, 973-533-1424

But I'm not sure if they're Glatt Kosher - I think they are, but I'm a goy, so what do I know?

They are dairy. So glatt really is not applicable. (I won't bore you as to why that is so.)

oh, right.

I actually knew that, somewhere in the back of my brain.

Eppes Essen in Livingston? Glatt Spot in West Orange?

- another ignorant goy here, but at least the name is promising...

Eppes Essen is not even kosher

By ShopRite in WO, do you mean the ShopRite at Essex Green (or whatever that shopping center is)? They have glatt kosher rotisserie chicken there? I find it hard to believe you can trust that. But when you say "they close early", I'm assuming you mean just this internal kosher deli area and not the whole ShopRite, right? Where is the ShopRite in Livingston? Are they both the same in terms of what they offer?

Thanks.

Moshavi Specialty Market and Restaurant is Glatt and it's in Livingston.

(Note that I don't know anything about any of these places - just found this listing and thought it might be helpful.)

Eppes Essen doesn't even try to be kosher. I saw a pastrami sandwich there slathered in melted cheese. I think you can get shellfish there, too.

But they have the best cheesecake I've ever had in my life.

If you like Chinese food there is a glatt kosher Chinese restaurant in West Orange:

Here is information on the ShopRites in Livingston and West Orange. I have no idea if this meets your requirements or not. Since ShopRites are essentially franchise operations it isn't outside the realm of possibility that these locations are owned by Orthodox families.

Btw, the Glatt Kosher Subway on South Livingston Avenue near the ShopRite in Livingston is no longer Kosher.

I called West Orange Shop Rite just in the nick of time. The guy was about to close up, so he put aside two chickens for me. I didn't think they'd close that early! We'll have to pick up side dishes in the regular kosher aisle (19 for those that need to know), which should be fine.

Thanks all for your help!

Glad that you got what you needed.

BTW Moshavi Specialty Market is out of business.

The kosher delis in the ShopRites are concession space within ShopRite (though like concessions in stores like Macy's you check out through the store system) and are separately owned with their own hours. I believe that the ones in Livingston and West Orange (Essex Green) are owned by the same company since they seem to have the same offerings.

Yes, Kosher Village inside Shop Rite even has its own gate to close up shop, and they were closed when I got there, but as promised, two sealed chickens were waiting for me in the regular deli area.

I noticed that Shop Rite also carries pre-packaged foods from Zayda's, but there is a sign in front of that section stating that this food is not under supervision by the Vaad Harabonim. I take that to mean that Zayda's is not glatt, and not acceptable to the orthodox community.

Zayda's tried shifting to glatt meat a year or so, I believe, and did not see the increase in demand to merit forcing higher prices on the rest of us who shop there. So they gave it up I believe.

But I could be wrong...just working from memory here.

Isn't the subway on livingston ave glatt kosher? Atleast thats what the signs said when it opened.

In West Orange, I think the name is Reuben's on Eagle Rock on the corner of Pleasant Valley Way. I know its to late, but an FYI for the future.
