What's a good transmission place?

It looks like the ol' Caravan's tranny may be giving up the ghost. Maybe.

Can anyone recommend a good place that does transmissions?

Level ten in Hardystown NJ rebuilt mine years ago. One of the new parts from Audi failed almost immediately, and they rebuilt it again without any question. Since then it has run for 80 000 miles without a glitch. They have an international reputation, with people shipping transmissions from all over the world. Fortunately, we can drive there, and they provided a loaner car.

Thanks janea, but that place sounds like overkill for my tired old van. oh oh

Rather then rebuild, consider getting a low mileage used one. Caravans and their look alikes are readily available in junkyards.

While not on a Caravan, but did this a couple years back, it was faster and cheaper than rebuild.

Haven't used them yet, but my mechanic, who I really trust, just referred me to Bob at Lee Myles in Union for a complicated issue with the automatic transmission in my wife's Forester.

thanks kenboy. sounds like a good lead.

The problem I'm having, if anyone would like to troubleshoot, is that the transmission sometimes doesn't engage until about 2000 rpm, sometimes higher.

I've got a trans fluid leak, so I hope it's just that. I had a garage look at it. They filled it up but said the front seals don't look so hot. It drove pretty well for the first hour or so of driving after I got it from the garage. The transmission light even went off, and I thought maybe I'm in the clear. No such luck and it's back to what it was doing before.

came back to say thanks again to kenboy. I just picked up my car from Lee Myles. They had to replace the trans, but Jerry (who works with Bob) suggested I go for a used one instead of a rebuild - saved a few thousand dollars doing that. It still wasn't cheap, but about as best as I could hope for.

so, along with kenboy, I too recommend the Lee Myles in Union.
