what is this fragrant bush with striated bark and white flowers that attracts hummingbirds?

Does anyone know the name of this wonderful bush?

It could be white spirea. It comes in different colors. Google white spirea. It looks the same as your picture.

It might be a viburnum.  There was a discussion about them years ago.  They're planted in Memorial Park along the south side of Oakview.  Beautiful white flowers and lovely fragrance.  https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/id/82159-Help-me-identify-a-white-flowering-shrub-in-Memorial-Park

Not viburnum.  Viburnum flowers look like  amazing snowballs.

I think it is a beauty bush.  A closer photo of the flowers and leaves might help us.

Big question, is it attracting hummingbirds?

Or a Daphne? Or maybe Philadelphus (Mock Orange)?

I'd definitely support the spirea camp. Definitely not crape myrtle or viburnum or mock orange or honeysuckle.  Don't know Daphne?  Got to meet her!

Best Regards,

Ron Carter

Maybe this one:

I think it's a Mock Orange.  Mine is smaller, but looks just like that right now.

Haven't seen a hummer anywhere near it, but see them frequently at my feeders oh oh

It does look like spirea but spirea is not fragrant. @rcarter31 look up Daphne Carol Mackie.  A pretty shrub with variegated leaves and fragrant spring flowers.  I don't  think this is the shrub that OP posted though.  It does look like a mock orange.

Morgana, how did you know it attracts hummingbirds.  I will attach a closer up photo with a hummingbird

Morgana, what was your thinking behind that question?

As one can see.....flowers are distinctly different from mock orange, which is a great bush as well.

Given the title of this thread ,  "artistic temperament" is a consideration.

Beauty Bush is not fragrant, is it?

ctrzaska - I think you 're right.Weigela has a lovely fragrance and looks similar to the picture.

the blossoms are different than Weigela or beauty bush....Look closely at the hummingbird photo and you can see the flowers are more fringed.  I could not find anything online with those fringed flowers.

There are many varieties of Philadelphus. What about this one?

Here's another fringed Philadelphus

This one looks very much like yours.

Hard to see.  Could just be a variety.  The branch composition and structure and leaf all seem to fit.  How many petals?

Here is a closeup photo of blossom.   Shows striated bark.   Also shows a bit of pink in blossom. I wish I could upload the fragrance as well?

I'm with krnl, definitely a Beautybush.  Just arrived at Chautauqua, they are all over the grounds.  I had pruned one back last year, not knowing what it was and it is now just finishing some flowering, should be spectacular next year!

Thanks Ron.  Keep up that Secret Garden.

I will settle for Beautybush.

Although I still wonder about the bark.   will take a close-up of the bark.
