What is tapioca? It's not dairy, is it? archived

Anybody know?
Oh, Lord, never mind, I just googled. It's made from the yuca plant if you're curious.

the pudding is probably eggy and dairy-y.

You mean other than disgusting?

I'sn't that were Ricky Ricardo played?

I can tell you Minute Tapioca can be used in apple pie instead of flour. It gives a lighter non pasty taste instead of flour for thickening.

The reason I asked is cause I got some soy & ginger sauce at WF to tempt my little kiddie with some stir fried vegetables, and then I checked the ingredients and it lists tapioca, and she's allergic to dairy so for the first time in my life I was like, "What IS tapioca anyhow?". I think it's used as a thickener in this sauce. Very weeeeird.

I also asked because I think people are interested in a minute-by-minute transcript of my most trivial thoughts as they flit through my mind.

common in Gluten free foods. should be no prob for your little one.

Thanks! Usually WF products have a little bold print "CONTAINS DAIRY" allergy warning and this doesn't so I'm feeling good about it. Except for the fact that it has tapioca in it which is just weird.

Aren't they?

Yeah, tapioca is a plant. Never knew that either, until I went to Costa Rica on my honeymoon.

a penny for your next trival thought...only if it flits though.

Only a penny! Why, I imagine lara thinks her trivial thoughts are worth WAAAAY more than that!

it's not just a penny...lara knows what i mean by "penny"....don't you, lara.

I remember as a kid we used to have tapioca pudding in school. Looked like white gruel.

tapioca pudding is good. it has a unique texture....with those tapioca "pearls" throughout.

I can't believe people are intrigued enough to even OPEN this thread!

OS, do I actually know you in real life? Because unless "rolling pennies" has TWO secret meanings...I'm just confused!!! :rolling:

hon, it's not the thread title, it's who originated the thread...flitting trivial thoughts and all.

aww.... :heartsabove:

Either that, or maybe "tapioca" is some sort of code word too.

And when is someone going to ask what happened on Meand's honeymoon in Costa Rica that enlightened her as to the nature of tapoica?

they probably had a honeymooner's tapioca bath for two.

well it appears that we are - or I am! Kinda like the facebook status - love it!

and I believe tapioca pearls are the "bubbles" in bubble tea!

We always used Tapioca at Hallowe'en parties, eye of newt.

wow - "always" & "eye of newt" in the same sentence! sounds like some Halloween party! (Hallowe'en?)

Funny, the ginger & soy sauce I got has "eye of newt" listed in the ingredients as well. Luckily, my child isn't allergic to that.

I love tapioca- just sayin'.... bgs

bgs, we need to eat tapioca pudding together !

tapioca pudding is awesome, and yes, the bubbles in bubble tea are tapioca.

of course Oldstone, if Celine Dion likes tapioca pudding, then Im swearing off the stuff as total crap. oh oh

So, Hank and Oldy- when shall we have a feast together, ending of course with tapioca???????
