It is frequently stated on MOL that someone 'smells a troll'. What, exactly, do they smell like, and is there a specific part on the troll that one must sniff to ascertain trolliness?

Speaking of dingleberries, my husband and I went to IHOP on rt 22 once, and he ordered the Swedish Pancakes. When the waitress brought them, she asked, "Are you gonna be wanting more dingleberries with that?" We had to avoid looking at one another until she moved away, so we wouldn't burst into laughter and hurt her feelings!!
