I like Paneras soups.

Hubby had chicken soup at Cactus Charlie's that he said was awesome.

Funny. We stopped going to Cactus Charlie's because it wasn't spicy enough. May be good time to pop in on them. Panera's does have good soup. Maybe we'll take that trip.

I am telling you the Maple Leaf and Parkwood are my go to places for good chicken soup. ( I happen to like chicken noodle with a matzoh ball or two....heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During the winter Roman Gourmet has delicious soups - usually pasta fagioli and chicken noodle.

Try Toro Loco's chicken soup- the best !
Cactus Charlie's is inconsistent ...some days good and some days like from a can -

I have had the chicken noodle soup at the Park Wood Diner, which is excellent. I have had many different soups at the Maple Leaf Restaurant, and they are wonderful, too. Roman Gourmet's chicken noodle soup is very good, also.

Some times I find the soups at Panera Bread to be on the salty side; I don't know if the creamy tomato soup is still on the menu but it is excellent.

Another good place is Kings in Short Hills. They have both a soup stand, and quarts of soup available in the deli area and the seafood area. Their shrimp and corn chowder is one of my favorites. The beef chili is very good, also, but not to veer off-topic. (The Maplewood Kings probably has a smaller selection of the soups, too.)

Picante A Taste of Mexico (on Morris Avenue in Springfield) has wonderful black bean and chicken soups.

Lots of soup at Whole Foods. You can eat it there or take it to go. I like the chicken soup and always get it when I don't feel well.

Yeah, Mom's! (better than Mom's since my Mom made Campbells). You can ladle it out yourself and get a whole lot of chicken or less if that is what you prefer.

Believe it or not, the soups from Quick Chek are very good. The chicken noodle is good and hearty; I usually take a pass on chicken noodle soup from most other places but will make a point to buy it at QC.

Another vote for the big Kings on Morris Ave. Especially the Portuguese Potato Kale soup wih Chorizo (I think that's what it is). I'm near there every Saturday, so I've started buying a couple of big containers of 2 different kinds and we do soup in a bread bowl night a few times a month. I haven't gotten the chicken noodle yet, but it looks very good.

Parkwood Diner's Cream of Turkey soup rocks, but it's only available on Sundays. Sometimes I crave the matzah ball soup if it's not Sunday. Manny's across from Home Depot makes good chicken noodle soup too.

A friend also raves about Mom's chicken soup at WF, but I'm always there in the evening when the soups have been sitting out all day and they don't look that appealing anymore.

I like Cactus Charlie's chicken soup a lot. I haven't noticed it being inconsistent, other than the amount of rice they add to it. The soup + chips and guacamole has become my favorite dinner there.

I love soup, and i'm psyched to have some new options from this thread to try!

We offer a rotating choice of soups; Chicken, Red Pea, Fish Tea, Mannish Water (Goat Head) and Gungo (Pigeon) Pea because Jamaicans are soup crazy. The "spinner" dumplings in them are worth the price of admission.

For something different and delicious, try the Freekeh soup at King Falafel in Millburn, which is an Egyptian chicken soup. Freekeh is a slightly smokey green wheat. It can also be a vegetarian soup, but at King Falafel is has chicken in it. Wonderful option.

Try Town Hall Delicatessen,
Chicken noodle , every day, Mon Italian Wedding, Tues Split Pea, Wed Beef Barley,Thurs Cream of Mushroom, Fri Manhattan and or New England Clam chowder, Sat Cream of Turkey, Sunday Pasta Fagioli.
All Store made and not real salty.

Town Hall is the most interesting... not out of a can and not overly salted. Some diner/restaurant soups are featuring Cream of Salt.

I like Parkwood's Garbanzo soup on Wednesdays.

edited to add: Just checked and the hours are M-S, 11:00-4:00. That's going to be difficult for the working crowd.

I have not tried them, but my cousin is a soup maven and he raves about the soups at the Millburn Deli.

I believe that the Millburn Deli serves Hale & Hearty soups (and they tend to be on the upper end of my price range, so I rarely buy unless it's a very unusual soup that I really want to sample). They are very good, though!

I haven't ordered it recently, but last time I bought it, Picante's chicken soup (mentioned in my earlier post) has some tomato in the broth, and features very chunky chicken--it's easily a meal for lunch.

Dragon Garden (in the Millburn Mall) has a wonderful chicken corn soup that many of the other local Chinese take out places do not have on their menus.

Trader Joe's also has some good soups (in the refrigerator sections where the cheese and prepared foods are), but they are available seasonally. Favorites there include the lobster bisque and tomato basil soup.

Just giving the soup lovers reading this thread a few more options to explore!

Most commercial (and not so commercial) places don't make their own soups. There are many wonderful soup companies that supply soups, 'Hale and Hearty' is on the top of the list, and their soups are good. Campbell's is on the low end and then Blount is in the middle.

That being typed, I really am looking forward to rustling up soups again!
