West South Orange Avenue Construction Update/Notice

Due to County notice to begin repaving South Orange Avenue (from Harding Drive thru the S-curves) the planned start schedule has been accelerated to install our planned new water source piping (main) from New Jersey American Water (NJAW).

On or about September 14, 2015, NJAW will begin the construction of the water system supply improvements. The first phase of construction will begin on West South Orange Avenue near the Main Reservoir, just west of Stonehill Road, and will continue east on West South Orange Avenue to the intersection of Lenox Avenue. The new water main will be installed within the westbound lane along West South Orange Avenue and cross over into the intersection of Lenox Avenue.

The first phase of this work is anticipated to take 4 to 5 days. The contractor doing the work is CRJ Contracting. They have coordinated with the County and the South Orange Police Department to provide Traffic control. While the work is being done, West South Orange Avenue will be temporarily narrowed to 2 lanes in that area.

Following the installation of the piping and valved interconnection to the reservoir the roadway will be repaved curb to curb from Lenox Ave. westerly.

Further updates will be posted as the project moves forward.

Thanks for the warning and details.

Maybe this is a silly question and has been answered a thousand times, but what is the current expected completion date?

For which element - S curves, this part of the water system piping , ...etc.

Oh, I'm sorry. I guess I was pretty vague. I meant for the whole shebang - finis - complete. More or less.

Inquiring minds would DEFINITELY like to know...

Has this been communicated to the school district to make accommodations for the school buses that are going to be delayed? The school will need to make arrangements to meet kids who will arrive at school with the bus after classes have started.

This phase of the piping to the start of paving of South Orange Avenue at Lenox is planned for Sept. 21th.

The new piping will take 4-5 weeks - from where the new pumping station to be located along the driveway at the DPW yard to the SO reservoir on South Orange Avenue (East of Stonehill).

The next phase will then begin on the DPW access road and for the intake line along Walton across to Audley to Kendal to E. Cedar to S. Ridgewood where it will be connected to the NJAW main. The reservoir supply line will extend from the DPW yard access road across and along Walton to Lenox and then continue to the current phase piping.

Starting next spring a pumping station will be constructed at a site along the DPW roadway and a meter pit installed east of the SO Avenue reservoir property. The impacted section of Walton will be repaved including new bump-outs at Audley. Audley is planned for repaving next year. The other impacted roadway sections as well will be paved

Testing and final transfer to NJAW will be completed by Jan. 1, 2017.

Why is it so expensive/hard for south orange to use its tax revenue to repave roads? Our road is in terrible shape.

Thanks for the information.

It's a county road.
