West Side Story at the Papermill

I go to alot of theater, and (unfortunately) the Papermill Subscription has been truly disappointing for ME (just my opinion) for the past several years.

Having said that, This performance of West Side Story is totally mesmerizing; completely absorbing from the moment it opened, with dazzling dancing by both these Shark kids and the Jet kids. These young actors and actresses act, sing effortlessly, dance with smiles on their faces (jazz and ballet) and are seemingly enjoying THEMSELVES so much that this may have been the nicest "best'est" play I have EVER seen.....Yes, phantom is wonderful, Yes Jersey Boys is captivating, Yes Chicago is sexy as hell, Yes American in Paris has ballet dancing that will make your eyeballs fall out......but this performance of West Side Story would've had Leonard Bernstein giving a standup ovation himself

The Papermill should extend this one......This is one show which WILL put them "on the map of respect"

Now.....I need to lose 40 pounds, work on my flexibility, lean how to LEAP and TWIRL and then I can audition the next time they're looking for a new cast (smile)

I read that they did add performances on Tuesdays (usually 'dark' at Papermill.)

I just got back from seeing it tonight and enjoyed it very much.  I'm hoping to get my hands on the video of the CHS performance in 2012, which was also excellent.  (Anyone have a copy of that?)

We went yesterday and it was very good. The only disappointment was the severely reduced orchestra, which really diminishes the impact of the music. It's a shame they have to decimate a score like that, which was a masterpiece of orchestration. Otherwise, it a very good production.

Why has it been a disappointment for you the last couple of years?

we saw this show today and I will agree. It was absolutely fantastic.

That's Regional Tony Award Winning Papermill Playhouse ... thank you.
