Watching Missing iPhone move on Find my IPhone

Daughter's iphone (pink case white 5S) disappeared in the girl's locker room today and we've watched it move through South Orange (around College Place and Wilden Place at one time or another)  We mention it in case anyone finds it, or knows of anyone that has found an iphone.

We're crossing our fingers that the person that has it, will turn it in to lost and found tomorrow at Columbia.  It disappeared during last period, so perhaps they didn't get a chance to drop it off at the end of the day and will drop it off tomorrow.

She's already reported to school officials.  Knowing where it is....kind of....unfortunately doesn't seem to really help us.  If you know of anyone that found an iphone, please post.

Thanks in advance and hoping for a return tomorrow morning!

I'd report it to the police, too.  Assuming the phone doesn't come back into school, they're the only ones that can do something about it (and they want to know anyhow).

ETA: If it's close, you can probably get an address depending on the circle it's showing (and the PD can potentially go knocking on a door or two?).  Once that power goes, if they don't charge it you're out of options.   I'd take a pic of its current location ASAP.  If a CHS student lives there, there you go.

Seems like a rampant problem at CHS.  My daughter's iphone was stolen yesterday from the locker room. It was immediately shut off by the person that took it so no ability to track.

Second, calling the police.

do not confront the person yourself....you can track where it is and contact the PD to knock on the door

If it is not returned today, we will call the police department.  Thanks for all your help.

I am wary of making assumptions on small data points, but I think we can assume this phone will not be returned voluntarily.

Can you have the phone take and send you photos?

You should notify the police ASAP that the phone is missing and let them know the approximate location identified by the app.  This will not get a good Samaritan in trouble and could improve your chances of the phone being returned to you.

I totally agree with Joan here.

but the longer you wait to call the PD, the more chance they have to do something with the phone so you can't find out....I don't know how it works with iPhones..but I would assume there is a way they can make in untraceable..even if its just disassembling it and removing the battery for a month until you stop looking for it.

You should also be able to "ping" it, so that the person who has it knows that it is being tracked.
