Washington DC restaurant recommendations/adults only weekend

We just had a very nice dinner at Zaytinya, which is small plates like Jaleo but with a Greek/Lebanese theme rather than Spanish. (Same restaurateur, José Andrés.) At 9th and G, across from the Portrait Gallelry/American Art Museum.

The website seems to stress the nightlife but the food and atmosphere are fabulous.

We usually hit Joe's Stone Crab at least once when we're there for, well...stone crab and OTT pies. Inn at Little Washington, Le Diplomate, Baby Wale (loud but fun), the Iron Gate (Greek, sit outside), Birch & Barley (beer, great fiod, and beer),and a great little spot in GTown I can't recall the name of offhand but can look up if you're going over that way.

Bistrot du Coin, just off Dupont Circle. Great brunch, wonderful lunch/dinner. Steak frites is amazing. If you like Les Halles in NYC, it's a little like that.

Founding Farmers - make sure to make a reservation well in advance.

Quite a few great Ethiopian restaurants in DC: Most recently, I enjoyed Das Ethiopian in Georgetown (I talked a few business colleagues into going there for lunch when we couldn't get a reservation at Farmers, and they still talk about how great that Das lunch was, and go back whenever they are in the area).

The popular Meskerem in Adams Morgan has closed, but I believe there are some other good options still in that area.

If you're into celebrity chefs and molecular gastronomy, try Minibar by Jose Andres - he is the king of experimental food. You'll need a reservation and I think the small bar for the prix fixe menu is sold out for months, but you can try. I ate there and it was a one-in-a-lifetime experience.

Agree with the Restaurant Nora rec and Jaleo or Zaytinya.

As sprout mentioned, there are great Ethiopian restaurants in Adams Morgan, as well as a variety of different cuisines, price points, cool bars, etc.

My brother who is a long-time DC resident says Chinatown has exploded with restaurants recently.

The first date my now-husband took me to (when I was living in DC and he was in NYC) was at 1789, and I still remember everything about it.

And just for kicks, hit up the Old Ebbit Grill for a drink if you're near the White House to see who you may see.

The Old Ebbit Grill is an institution...one of the busiest restaurants in the country and a real scene...and very good too. I judged their International Wines for Oysters competition two years ago ahead of their Oyster Riot, a weekend long party that sells out as east as most hot concerts. It is probably the best restaurant based party I've ever attended, the weekend before Thanksgiving for 20 years running.
