Updated to IPhone 6..Help Please

Ok so I finally gave up my IPhone 4 and 3G and it's non updated OS 5 or 6 point something. I now have a spanking new IPhone6 with OS 8.02 and I am partially lost. Any tips, advise HELP???

I do not have my iPhone 6 yet. I have the 4S on OS8.02. What exactly is the question? Perhaps I will have a clue. If not me, others may.

Do you need a case? I have an extra.

@Annemarie , Oh yes please, that would be loverly!

@JGBerkeley George, no really questions, just want to familiarize myself with all the ins and outs. Having a lot of fun with it!

PM me with your work schedule and I will swing by.

Ok, when I get my iPhone6 I will pop over for help from you.

Here's a list of new features and a short description of them:

The article more or less assumes you're moving from iOS 7 to iOS 8. If, as you say, you are moving from iOS 5 or 6, there were obviously things in between that you've missed. Although there are certainly some cool new things, in reality the basic functions of the phone stay pretty similar across the upgrades. Best thing to do is just jump in a mess around with it, as you mention.

A big part of the change you are experiencing is the change from iOS 6 to 7, so you might want to google that phrase for some articles from last year that highlighted those changes, which were VERY significant. iOS 8 is really pretty similar to 7, but with some added features. But, for the most part, when going from 7 to 8, you can take your time trying out the new features ... which is what I'm doing now.

But I do recall that when I first got 7, I was very confused for awhile because many existing features and procedures were changed, so you might want to focus on that at first and then go from there.

I got my iPhone 6 a couple of weeks ago and had ordered a case which took a while to come. But it just arrived yesterday and I'm very happy with it. So if you're looking for a case, check this one out: http://www.silkinnovation.com/products/pureview-ultra-slim-clear-case-for-iphone-6/

It is very slim but seems sturdy. It has a clear plastic back and a screen protector. And the phone still fits in my jeans pocket, which would not have been the case with most of the bulkier cases that I saw. I also didn't want to spend a lot of money sight unseen, so this fit the bill in that regard too. (Although the price already seems to have increased a bit from when I made my purchase.)

sac, that's a very nice looking case, especially for the price.

Monoprice is also a good site for inexpensive cases, and they've got a coupon for an additional 15% off until 10/20. I picked up an el cheapo case there to tide me over until I find something better.

I wanted a Morphie for the iPhone 6 but they aren't made yet. . I Got a nice inexpensive case to Hold me over

My iPhone 6 is on a FedEx delivery truck today, finally. Verizon had projected a delivery of 10/31, but I was pretty sure that was just a cover-our-corporate-ass date. I can't wait to get my hands on it. My 16gb 4S has definitely slowed down as of late. Even keeping my app count under 300 hasn't improved that. The iPhone 6 will have 64gb, so I can load em back up.

Cool, Meta it's been about 10 days now soon can give you lessons on the 6 if you need.

Good article. Thank you.

@AnneMarie, was that you who stopped into the Library this morning with the lovely new IPhone 6 case?? Wished you would have stopped so I could have said thank you in person.. How sweet of you!!!

You were on the phone and I was carrying a baby who could explode at any moment so I hedged my bets!

Looks like I might have to return my iPhone 6. The signal strength for LTE is unacceptable low. Unusable. Calls drop in and out. When I tested the signal strength, I realized how severe the problem is.

As I sit in the chair in my home where I spend most of my time, the LTE signal is 1% -112.4dBm. The 3 G signal is 22% -99.2 dBm. Sigh. When I run the test on my iPhone 4S (which I'm still waiting to return for the rebate), the 3G signal is better the on the 6. Right now, it's 40% -87.9 dBm.

The 3 pictures below were taken Friday night. The last one is from my 4S.

I gave up my unlimited data contract to get this phone. :-(
If I do give this back, I might go for a 5S instead (if I thought the reception was going to be any better).

I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem. I have had horrible WiFi/LTE issues since the IOS8 upgrade, and have read about those types of issues as well.

Did Verizon force you to give up the unlimited plan to move to LTE on the 6? I upgraded from 4S to 6 Plus on AT&T and got to keep my unlimited plan.

@JeffMarkel, I went from the 4 with Unlimited to the IPhone6 with 6mg or gigs or whatever it is. They were compensating me for giving up the unlimited . I know that ATT lets you stay grandfathered in for unlimited data when you upgrade your phone but Verizon will only do that if you provide the phone (pay for it)

Dittos, What App is that? I want to read what I am getting back in my office.
Also, how did you capture the screen to post it?

Hey, Dudes want to know.

Later, Da

Just went hot on the i6Plus yesterday. My only comment, it is a tad, just a tad.....too big.

I'm with ya, George - I have the 6 Plus and I like it very much, but its size (think aircraft carrier) can be a little much sometimes.

Its a free app called FieldTester, by Staircase 3.

I also use another one called Cell Phone Coverage Map by Rootmetrics. It uses crowdsourcing to develop its statistics and maps.

George, to capture any screen, click the power button and the Home (round) button simultaneously. You'll hear a shutter noise and a .png of the screen will appear in your Camera Roll.

For WiFi testing, I've used free apps called Network Analyzer Lite by Techet and iNetTools-Network Diagnostics by ComcSoft.

I'm barely awake so I hope I got that all correctly. cool hmm

Meta Get some sleep. Bingo on Field Tester. I'm playing with it now.

We gave up our unlimited plan awhile back but, honestly, for the same money we get as much data or more then we had ever used before anyway. I guess if you are a REALLY heavy cellular data user, you might come out worse, but I'm not a light user and neither are my kids (all on the plan together) and I think we are pretty much at the same place cost-wise as we were before.

Mr. Meta:

Thanx!! Our talk on the street did me some good. You solved a problem that I HAD.

Over my office at the store is a very large HVAC system and for 6 years now, my cell phone could ring, however, I had to run to the front windows of the store to get a signal to talk and not drop the call.

Well, since I have a pretty solid Wifi here I turned on that Voip option and bingo, I can now take and make cell phone calls from my desk.

Thanx Meta!!!!
