Union Post Office Phone Number?

Does anyone have a real phone number where I can talk to a live person in Union? The listed number for them (908-688-4785) is a general computer voice thing, which tells me I have to call 908-688-4785! Thanks.

ETA: I called the general 800 number and explained what happened to me -- the woman laughed and said "typical"! But she did help me filing an inquiry as to why my mail isn't being forwarded to me, but is being returned to sender. Geesh, it never ends, does it? cool cheese

My mail was misdelivered in March, so I tried navigating through the current PO maze. I had the same experience contacting the Union PO. I ended up contacting their corporate communications department, which directed me to the Consumer & Industry Contact:

USPS Northern New Jersey District
21Kilmer Road
Edison NJ 08899-9998
Tel: 732-819-3260

In a couple of emails, I pointed out to the corporate communications rep that the info on the USPS website is incorrect and that it's impossible to get through to the Union PO. After calling the Consumer contact, I received a phone call from a temp working on Consumer problems, forwarded my previous correspondence to her, and that's the last I heard of it. Since then, my mail has been delivered correctly, as far as I know. I didn't have time to pursue the issue, and it doesn't surprise me that it remains unresolved. I never did get a correct number for the Union PO.

Here's another number, from the post about the February PO nightmare:

The Mayor has also not gotten any mail for the past two days.

You can also call Mr. Thomas Fung, Manager, Marketing, Northern New Jersey District

I've been able to get through several times calling 908-688-4785 and asking for a Maplewood supervisor. The interactive answering system must be relatively new because a live person always picked up the phone when I called.

I've also been having issues with mishandled mail while on vacation - I have the direct numbers for both Union and Maplewood, but each number gets me into the voice-mail-system-from-hell and you simply cannot get to a person at a real post office. I did manage (once) to get a customer service rep at the 800 number. His English was a bit uncertain, but he was helpful and he put a complaint through that was supposed to trigger a callback from the Union post office. It's been over a week and I still haven't gotten a call back from them. Once I am back in town I am definitely going in person to both the Union and Maplewood post offices to complain.

If they cannot provide the services promised and you cannot contact anyone to discuss the problem, why bother having a post service? I used to make jokes with my cousins in Italy about the Italian mail service, but ours is sort of like theirs was then!

I'm frankly not putting any more effort into this. The investigation is supposedly being handled by my current town's post office and they will do the talking to Union. I'm frankly not very hopeful for a successful outcome based on previous experience. Hopefully I'll stop getting the King's circulars which I'd been asking them to stop sending me for, oh, 8 years or so! LOL!

Hey, at least that's an improvement over what I experienced. When I called the Maplewood PO in March, they told me to take my problem up with Union. I also called the 1-800 number to complain. Hope your problem gets resolved soon.

UPDATE: I just got a package of mail from the new owners of my house that the post office is still delivering to them, and not forwarding to me. On to the District Office!
