Thanks. Since my original post, we've focused on a simpler single piece non-RO filter made by CuzN. Is your GE a reverse osmosis? I didn't even remember why we got the RO in the first place. My wife says the water tasted funny without it. I have no recollection of that.
Yes, ours is a R.O. Bought it at Lowe’s. Have had it for probably 10 years now. Happy with it.
We use a whole house filter and softener. My issue with RO filters is that the most efficient ones waste as much water as they clean.
I got a Woder filter, there are several versions and we got one that is good for 5000 gallons. It attaches under the sink to just the cold input. It tastes fine. I couldn't tell you exactly what it removes but to us it tastes better than a Brita and it's easier.
RO systems create a lot of wastewater. If you are just focused on drinking water then I recommend a non-RO undersink filter or end-of-tap filter.
I had no idea about the RO waste water problem until the last few days when we began looking into it. Will definitely be getting the simpler, non RO kind. The ROs also clog up the under sink area, limiting space and making pluming work difficult.

Our quite old Culligan system seems to be shot. Water is leaking from places it shouldn't.
Looking for a replacement. Could not find a recent Consumer Reports article. There are several miscellaneous web sites with "ten best" type articles but I am mistrustful of what might be sponsored content.
Thoughts welcome. I did noticed that Culligan does not make any of these best lists.
