Um.... AAUUUGGGHH again? Help with raccoon.

Need a reco for someone to come and remove a HUGE raccoon from my attic.  Animal Control (St. Hubert's) came and set a trap, deciding she was a tad too mean (and pregnant and big) to want to risk capture, but she's not interested in much more than decorating ideas it seems.  The trap remains unsprung and they just want to wait it out.  Have been calling Buckingham all day to no avail.  We do not want to wait this out.  Ideas?

Jerrry's wife is very ill, so he's probably not answering.

What kind of bait is in the trap? And can the raccoon still come and go from your attic or did you close off its exit?

krugle--Thanks for that info.  Won't bother him with my issue further given the circumstances.

SS- I think peanut butter on bread or an apple?  St. Hubert's set it so figure it is what it is....

Got to use cat food . They are meat eaters .

I used these people a few years ago to get rid of 2 raccoons and repair points of entry.

Probably a dumb question, but is there food in the trap, had one in the attic once, put a piece of bread with peanut butter on it, and the raccoon went for it, sprung door closed, took him to the reservation  and let him go, but it was during the day, and light outside. We also covered the trap with a blanket after he was caught so he wouldn't get crazy in the car.

Mod is right.  Raccoons love cat food. I would change the bait.  They also like sardines.

Jerry's wife, Alma, passed away. The wake is today at Holle's.

That's terrible news.

As to the food, I'm not about to go and check, but figure the animal control folks know what they're doing.  Then again she's still holed up in the attic redecorating, so there's that.

I'm so sorry to hear that. He's a good guy. I didn't know Alma but I'm sure she was a good woman.  LOL

Release a few bats in the attic area to confuse the raccoon.

Got Wildlife did a great job with getting a mama and baby raccoons to vacate our crawl space. Just don't send her across the street to us!

Got Wildlife (Luca) is coming today. Problem: they don't remove, but set a one-way exit and basically hope they leave, then check after a week, and if/when gone remediate the access (which is 99% the attic fan and the tree right outside it).  Not thrilled about that approach as I want this thing GONE NOW, but it is what it is.  We'll see what they say....

Woodlands Wildlife Refuge might have suggestions for you if she doesn't leave and/or gives birth to her kits.  http://www.woodlandswildlife.org/WildlifeInfo.htm#Raccoons  If she does spring the trap, they will probably accept her at the refuge, which is near Clinton, but it's likely that you'd have to drive her out there.

Is this Jerry Sr. or Jr.?  Very sad either way but I want to say the right thing next time I see one of them.  Thanks.

I can reach out to Debbie Hadu your former ACO if you like? She's licensed to deal with wildlife and has a raccoon rescue. Good idea or has the masked marauder left?

I used the same wildlife management company that mod reccommended above----they were efficient and effective.

Must be Jerry Sr.'s wife as the obit says Alma is 81 years old. Still sad!

Update: Came today, and no sign, but could still be in deepest eaves hidden by boxes.  Will seal up one smaller entry point, then put one-way door over main entry (attic fan).  In a week check thoroughly again, and if gone will put grate over attic fan and call it a day.  Thought is that confronting her so soon after entry may have scared her off permanently as the attic won't be considered safe. Bone hopes.  If I hear her tonight I'll go nuts, but it is what it is it seems.

If nothing else works.............have a pest control guy use a ULV or fogging machine in the attic.  It won't harm the racoon but will drive her out.

Quickly, like the next day seal the hole she is using to get in and out of your attic

Did that one time for a customer who insisted his attic was haunted.

I am so disappointed. I was hoping for much better entertainment value from this thread.  wink

Although I have to add how sorry I am to hear about Mrs. Buckingham.  LOL

There WAS a scene involving ctrzwife's high school field hockey stick...

....and ctrzcoon II is apparently BACK.

So there's that.

If you're not sure if she's still up there, sprinkle a light dusting of flour or baby powder on the floor/near the trap etc. Won't attract her to eat it but it will show tracks if she's there.

Have you seen any evidence that she's robbing the trap of food without triggering it? I dealt with one like that for another MOLer. It took a while but we eventually figured out how to fool it. Problem cleared out and they could finally do the repairs.

Looks like you're gonna have yourself some tiny raccoon butlers just in time for spring cleaning. I've heard baby raccoons purr! It'll be adorable, don't worry.

Oh, they'll get cleaned all right.  They've got a week.

You might be able to drive her out with a strobe light. I've read they hate those.

Add a disco ball and some Bee Gees to give those little rodents Boogie Fever!
