Two Trattoria's in South Orange? archived

what's going on? It seems as if there are two different Trattoria's. Franks opening on Valley and Village opening where the Dancing Goat. Why do we need so many pizza places in town? Are these two new places connected in any way? I can just imagine how confused some people will get with the names being so similar.
Frank's has been there a long time -- I think he just renamed it.

Is Frank moving to another location on Valley? He's been in the old Sunrise Pizzeria location for about two years...

Hasn't Frank's been open for over a year?

I used to work @ Sunrise Pizzeria when I was in High School.

Geeze, I'm OLD!

Frank's (the old Sunrise) has been Frank's for a couple of years but they delivered flyers, received today, saying that "Frank's Trattoria" is now open.

What does one place have to do with another, other than having the word Trattoria in their names? They are two completely different types of restaurants. In my estimation, Frank's is primarily a pizza place while Village Trattoria is not. I'm glad the VT is going to South Orange, hopefully more restaurants will come.

So does this mean there will be two pizza places in South Orange with similar names? The one at the old Dancing Goat (according to my sister) won't be delivering.

Is Frank the same Frank who use to work at the Roman Gourmet years ago? And if he was 'Franks' all this time why did he add 'Trattoria' to the name? Is he still keeping the Maplewood location?

Is Village the one with an Angelo who has two other locations -one in Summit the other on Inwood in Maplewood Center?

The debate going on in my house right now between my sister, brother in law the two nephews and me over this is unreal.

Frank's Pizzeria will be Frank's Trattoria. Village Trattoria is the one on Baker in Maplewood.

Don't know if it's the same Frank as Roman Gourmet. I think he added "trattoria" to make him sound upscale but for the real reason, you'd have to ask him.

Good luck with your home battles.

it's been frank's trattoria for a couple years, no? I don't think he renamed the place

The only reason the one has anything to do with the other is trying to figure out if there were two different 'Trattoria.' Then there was confusion over which one was where, who owned which one, blah blah blah.

My sister was asking me about it and I told her it was opening where the old Dancing Goat was. She tells me it's oening on Valley. Then there was the debate over the owner's name. Then over where it was located. Throw my nephews in the mix and it's total confusion. I tried to tell them there was a thread about this on MOL and the Goat was mentioned.

Then I realized there can be two different places both opening a South Orange location, which seems to be the case. So that pretty much settled and ended the conversation. We (my sister) and I both turned out to be right.

Still think it's dumb to rename your place to a name very similar to another business. It will be interesting to see if South Orange can support all these different pizza places. It does seem they are spread out a bit so that will help.

Yes it has always been Frank's Trattoria and it is Frank from Roman Gourmet.

The Trattoria is on BAKER?? I thought it was on that stupid one way by the bank??

I think "Frank's" is the most popular name for a pizza place anywhere. 67 pages of entries on google. Some of them may be repeats but, god damn.

Why would he do that? It's always been Franks Trattoria.

They really can't be compared the Village Trattoria and Franks Trattoria. The former is definitely better.

Why stupid?

One is on Inwood. Now you guys see what went on here. It was pretty funny because we were both saying things about the different T's not realizing there were two with Maplewood locations. Even more funny both are opening places here. It got very confusing.

Since they've both existed in Maplewood with names that are similar they shouldn't have problems with the South Orange locations.

The Dancing Goat Trattoria is owned by the same person who owns the one on Inwood Place in Maplewood, which will remain open. This will be his third location (has another in Summit) .. so he must be doing something right.

Just to clean up this mess:

Frank = The old pizza guy from Roman Gourmet.
Frank's Trattoria = Pizza place on valley street where the old sunrise used to be. Frank owns it.

Angelo = Owner of Village Trattoria
Village Trattoria = One of the best pizza places/restaurants in Maplewood...located on Inwood place.
Village Trattoria (South Orange) = New restaurant in South Orange ALSO owned by Angelo.
And in case you're in the Summit area theres a Trattoria there as well which is partially owned by Angelo.

Support local restaurants.

BTW, Frank of Franks Trattoria on Valley (old Sunrise Pizza Location) has also opened a new location on Springfield Avenue. Perhaps that is why the flyers are now around.

also, I think of Village Trat as a restaurant that serves pizza. I think of Roman Gourmet (not familiar with Frank's) & similar as pizza places that also serve of italian food.

I thought the Village Trattoria going into SO was owned by someone different and had no affiliation with the one in Maplewood.

pretty sure it's the same folks, no? same logo and everything - I guess they could franchise, but I wouldn't think they would do one so close if not self-owned.

What doulamomma said; I thought this was going to be their third restaurant

This is one of the most confusing threads I've seen in a long time...

You and me both TL....

It's clear to me. What questions remain?

Oh my goodness. This thread is a disaster.

This is wrong. There is most certainly an affiliation. Either that, or Angelo is confused and is wasting his time hanging out in South Orange at the former Goat Cafe.

Roman Gormet used to have good pizza when Frank was there..
Frank makes VERY Good PIZZA!!

I FEEL LIKE I'M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!

eat at both trattorias...you will love it...true story

Maplewood Pizza used to be good before they moved..maybe it has something to do with yeast spores..but it's really gone down hill.
