We used Visa Tree Service out of Union. They were given to us by referral. They were exceptionally professional and much cheaper than many in our area. We did not get trees cut down YET...we're doing that in a month or so, but he did give our forest a major trimming and now we have enough wood for the winter! btw...even if you don't go with this company, someone advised me to always ask for the cutters insurance information. Visa does have insurance and showed me the paperwork and gave me the business card to the company who handles his business.

I had a large Maple that had to be removed. It was in a difficult location between 2 garages. No room for error.
I used Franks Tree Service of Summit 800-340-8733. They did a great job in a difficult situation and were the best price

I have had three estimates done for some work: Maplewood Tree Service, Frank's and Tree Tech. Tree Tech had the best price, and were the ones I got the best feeling about. Give Jeff Pilot at Tree Tech a call. Sorry I don't have their number on me.

Each person we had come out to give us estimates all said the tree in front of our house needs to come down, including Carlos from Visa Tree. I'm just sick about this. It's a tulip tree and is beautiful with tons of ivy. I don't want it to fall on my house, so it's inevitable that it must go...I think. Is there a way to save it, possibly, without it breaking the bank?

Why did they say it had to come down? Too close to the house? Sick? It does sound beautiful...

they all say it's dying...the tops, which Visa cut down extensively, are thinning and dying and the bottom bark is brittle and can easily peel off. It looks healthy and that's so bothersome to me. One of the best things about our new house was my daydream of always having a great tree like that one in our front yard. Each time I see "her", I can't get over possibly not seeing "her" again:cry:

Ivy should be cut back and not allowed to travel up a tree. Maybe has nothing to do with the tree's poor prognosis. I know you feel sad, but after you spend lots of money trying to save a tree, there will be a time when you can say that you did your best, and then replace the tree with something else. Perhaps the tree has a fungus? Infested with insects? At the end of its life span? Structurally unsound?

anyone have an idea as to the reasonable rates charged for trimming back a large oak tree?
